Default NS - Inlet manifold

My daughter is looking for an NS Diesel auto. On those they look at she asks has the inlet manifold been replaced with the modified one to overcome clogging. One said it had been replaced under warranty and another said no and others don't know.
I'm hoping someone can tell us whether the inlet manifold replacement was the subject of a recall, whether it is a "hot fix" or is only replaced under warranty if it causes a problem.
It appears MM recognise it as a design fault but do they replace the manifold if it plays up after the warranty has expired or is it at the owners expense?
Hoping someone can answer these questions.

The original owner of my NS was aware that many people were having problems with sooting up in the manifold and insisted MM change it to the newer NT style under warranty (even though no problems had showed up on his car at that stage).

MM did change it at no charge.

Be aware that many NS and NTs have rust problems on the top of the rear doors. May be worth checking if this has been repaired as well. There are a couple of threads about this issue in the 4.2 section of this forum.

The DPF can be a pain on NS diesels as well, particularly if they aren't driven at speed reasonably regularly. Plenty of threads about this as well.

Good luck with the search!

There is lots on the Gen 4-1 forum on this topic already regarding the upper manifold and what MM is doing.

http://www2.pajeroclub.com.au/forum/...anifold&page=2 - Look at Estban's photo on the page. This is the location of the repalced Manifold and should be eaily visible on any NS you inspect

I can't answer what happens post warranty

I had my manifolds replaced a month ago under warranty, the dealer knew of the manifold issue as they already had replaced quite a few .My vehicle had the occasional little splutter that was all, and it idled a bit rough in the mornings .

I am currently waiting to hear from MM re the inlet manifold and sensor being replaced. I had some warning lights and had a diagnostic done at the dealer. My NS is out of warranty as it has done 170K KMs, but a 'goodwill' form has been submitted for MM to consider. I bought my NS at 160K KMs, and it had a full service history from a main dealer - I guess no warnings must have shown previously

The information I was given by MM was that it would only have been fixed if it caused an issue - there was no recall, but what was called a hotline fix was issued.

When speaking to MM, they would not guarantee it would be done now with the car out of warranty, but did say to encourage my dealer to submit a goodwill form for them to consider. If the car is still under warranty and a fault shows, then it should just be done.

Interestingly, the warning lights coming on coincided with me filling up with Shell Diesel, I normally fill with Caltex and before and after filling with Shell there were no problems. Could well be a coincidence I suppose, but use and driving conditions were the same

Cheers

Update:- Just had a call from the dealer to say MM will not be making any contribution to parts or labour as it is 'too far beyond warranty'. If I want to get it done anyway we are looking at $2,200

As far as I have read from here there is no recall but if you have problems it will be changed at no cost, it would be good if someone can give the official info (think you have a government web page with recalls there?) as I can prove that there is a recall somewhere I might have Mitsubishi in Chile change mine as they know say they don?t have any info.

regards
