Deep cycle that is also a cranking Battery?

In regards to the aux battery in a dual setup running a fridge while driving & stationary. I'm wondering if an AGM cranking & deep cycle battery is a worse choice over just a deep cycle? Mainly for longevity. I can't find much on these dual purpose ones & thought I would ask. Sounds like there would be a trade off for being able to crank from it.

    thanks

If you get a large deep cycle (say 100 amp/hr) you will have no worries with it as a crank battery. I used a deep cycle in a Toyota work vehicle for years and never had an issue. When the battery goes in my NW, I will be getting a deep cycle/start battery.

That sounds good, for going deep in the woods some insurance for a flat starter. Of course solar panels too.

The big marine type batteries appear to have both cranking and deep cycle abilities. One of these may be a good option?

SS75TI 1030CCA 80AH. Whether you use SSB. When Failure is not an Option - Use only SSB. Plate TypeStart Stop AGM. AH (20hr)80. Part NoSS75Ti. i-Start Batteries.

I am going to go with one of these. High crank amps, good 80 amp for deep cycle, can be used under bonnet and not a bad price delivered to my door. I am using a 130amp SSB as an auxillary now and its going great guns.

I run a combo marine deep cycle start battery as my 2nd battery. Nothing special 70AH 630CCA but it's been in there for a couple of years now and did the job when my main battery died.

Old but I used to use exide extremes as a second battery. Served me well.

I use Amaron green dual purpose batteries for both aux (about 105AH/800cca) and main(bit smaller than the aux). Done a great job so far (2 years) keeping the grog cold over night and up to 36 hours on a warm day. Jump started myself a few times after leaving the radio on or interior lights on too long when I had the original battery as a starter.
                      Cheers, Hatto

Bit of a newb question as I never thought about, but how do you jump start yourself? Just the jumper cables from aux to starter?

You will only need the one lead from the set of jumpers. Positive of Auxhillary battery to positive of Starter battery.

You could jump start yourself with just the one cable +-+ but my redarc sbi12 voltage sensitive relay came with instructions to wire a dash mounted button to link the batteries so just by holding a button in I can jump start myself without even undoing my seat belt! So d's complicated but with the instructions it was really easy, just time consuming running wires into the cab from the engine bay etc.
                            Cheers, Hatto
