If you have a little extra time, you can take the Oodnadatta from Marree to Marla. About the same distance to get to Marla compared to using the Stuart Highway but a lot more fun and heaps more stuff to see. Being dirt, it will take you longer but if you have the time, it is worth it.
After you go to Kings Canyon, take the Mereenie Loop road back to Alice but stop in for a night at Palm Valley. The loop road is a great scenic drive and Palm valley is simply spectacular....
Make sure you stay at the Daly Waters Pub and have the 'Beef and Barra' for dinner. Top pub and a top feed.
From Daly Waters, head to Mataranka and go for a dip in Bitter Springs. Beautiful spot.....
Have a great trip. We want to see lots of pics when you get home
    Cheers, Dan.

Gday PB09, how did the trip go? Did you take the off-road options Aussie Dave suggested?
