    Genuine or Aftermarket Coolant

Hi All , I purchased some Nulon Long Life Coolant Pre mixed coolant 33% for a coolant change in 2008 NS Pajero . But the Mitsubishi dealer claims that this coolant is no good for my cooling system , as it is not compatible , and if I use it , may cause problems ????? Not sure what to do here ??/

Nulons coolant uses 353 grams / litre Ethylene Glycol .

Mitsubishi Genuine brand coolants uses 1025 grams / litre . Mitsubishi brand coolant is twice the price of Nulons brand . Anyway I can return to Nulon brand coolant to Autobarn for a store credit .

Would appreciate any comments and advice here .

    Cheers Steve

    353 grams / litre Ethylene Glycol . V Mitsubishi Genuine 1025 grams / litre

There must be a reason Mitsubishi Genuine is near 3 time the concentration

I would without hesitation use the OEM product

i have allways used aftermarket coolants in my pajero engines without any issues whatsoever, even after several years of ownership nothing has gone wrong in the cooling line. to me Compatable Coolant is a not so cheap brand plus it must be the same colour as what you have in your radiator now eg; Red or Green . if Red stick with Red and vice versa. buy the concentrate container and add the required amount , dont use the premix.

After market in mine and after a few long climbs this wekend I reached 103C with no boiling.
Just make sure you do a full flush and then even run on water for a day or two to completely remove any traces of the old coolant.
No reason not to run after market coolant.

Out of interest ask them why apart from the concentration. Be very interested to here their replies.

this is exactly the reason that the mitsubishi is more expensive, and then the mitsubishi is also a concentrate which you dilute 50/50, so the mitsubishi is in fact probably cheaper than the nulon pre mix, and it works better as well. You will find the castrol is the same concentration as the Mitsubishi stuff, and you are far better buying concentrate (and distilled water if you live in a hard water area.) than the premix.

Easy done mate. Ethylene Glycol is a liquid.

MM is right on the max advisable limit of Ethylene Glycol %.

                30% is fine

Is Mitsubishi Coolant still available as a concentrate in the East??? Here in Perth you can now only by it as pre mixed in 5 litres for $45.
The problem with this is when flushing your cooling system with water, it's impossible to remove all residue water from the system so when filling the system the premix ends up being diluted further.

chris 4x4 , no the genuine coolant is only avialable as a premix , not as a concentrate .

As a side issue for my 2c worth when diluting the concentrate NEVER EVER use tap water. Always distilled or at least demineralised. Tap water I have found will each the alloy away from the inside out and you don't find out till it is too late.

Some years ago I nearly lost an engine in another vehicle. It was just fortunate for me the water pump failed and when I replaced it I noticed other allow components were severely corroded. If the alloy had failed I would have had an engine full of water.

I'm surprised that no-one has mentioned that you should never mix any other coolant with the factory one. Doing so can cause the coolant to gel. You can change coolants, but only after a really thorough flush of the system. Not during warranty, though.
