What about an Aussie locker for the front? They ratchet enough for steering to work yet still do the locker thing. Relatively cheap too. I've got one in my mk triton. Damn near unstoppable. Been contemplating the welded rear diff idea, but the coppers round here love picking on modded 4bys, so don't want to give them the chance..
