    I need a new turbo - error 41

Having a run of bad luck at the moment.

Engine light came on yesterday and it threw error 41. Thinking it was the throttle sensor I kept driving. Wrong...

The turbo cracked on the exhaust inlet, so I'm up for a new turbo.

Any recommendations or suggestions on a replacement turbo?

I had a new aftermarket one put in. Cost about $900 plus about $100 bits and pieces, installation about $600. I hear genuine over $3000. Not sure of the brand but he said it was as good as original and he is reputable. He sourced it from Aus wholesaler. I’m sorry I don’t know exact facts but I’m in bed about to go lalas but thought I’d let you know it can be new and not break the bank. I’ll try find out more if you’re interested and if in WA can put you on to him.

Hey Ricoh, how many KM’s has your done. Mine is at 413K and haven’t had turbo problems yet but it may be an experience we might share one day.
If yours has similar km to mine it might be something I need to look at.

          'preventative maintenance'

Is there such a thing as 'preventative maintenance' for a turbo unit ?

Your problem sounds to me more like that the turbo has been overheated at some stage and then rapidly cooled eg going through a river and getting the turbo splashed or dunked. It does not sound like wear and tear to me. I have not heard of a turbo casing cracking under normal operating conditions (but there is always a first time....).

The water X-ings on the Old TeleTrack last year can probably be held accountable.

I've spoken to a lot of turbo suppliers and diesel mechanics. Everyone says the same thing, keep it standard. Turbo mods are like going down the rabbit hole.

I've sourced a genuine brand new turbo from MTQ in Sydney. Trade price is $1400. Cheapest by a long shot, even cheaper than Amayama. Should be going in today.

Some are against catch cans as they say the oil blow by lubricates the turbo. Not my opinion, just something I read once.

I hope not Richo !!. Have only caught about 40 ml in the last 500000k. Double row of ball and race bearings spinning at 30000 rpm require a greater flow than what blow by provides. Turbo have their own dedicated oil supply line.
