there is a single screw at one end, then pullup, and yank.

they will come off, they slide a fair way under the wing mirrors.

I cut mine back in place, took them off, sanded, prime and matt black.

i took one off, and found it too hard to cut straight and keep all my fingers.

i cut off the rubber from the main flat edge.

I couldn't hold it tight or square, and the vice would destroy it.

So i did all the cutting in place on the car.

I also cheat with any spray painting, I heat the can up with very hot water, i used to pop the cans in an old kettle and boil em up for a bit, you can't hold the can, but the paint goes on dry, can also take a few coats, as the paint is very thin.

ok so what you are saying is the rubber that I am trying to remove is part of the rubber that touches the window and that's the bit I need to cut straight?
          ok thanks for your info

I left the top bit intact, and just removed the lower half.

that top bit is handy to have.
