A recent post by Berrima Diesel about the Toyota D4-D engine. Not what you'd call a glowing report? Why are they still so popular??

They've been 'fixed' in the newer ones though apparently yeah? '10/'11 onwards or something?

Before buying my NT I almost bought a 2009 GLX Prado. After reading Prado Point and all 26 or so pages re death rattle of Prado, Denso injectors I changed my mind. Pajero's also have have Denso injectors however a different design.

Toyota Japan recommend 4D4 injectors are rebuilt with new seals and seats every 45k however Toyota Australia do no follow this recommendation. Interestingly Toyota New Zealand follow Toyota Japan's recommendation. From memory USA and Europe have a recall on Injectors.

There have been a few successful cases where Toyota Australia have settled.

Very interesting article. My friend has just bought a 2009 hilux and his friend is a Prado nutter. Will be interesting to show them. Ive met 2 people whos prado has done injectors one plenty of cash to fix. One of them helped me out when the landrover died for the last time. He was not a happy camper with Toyota.
Toyoya are still up on the pedestal though dont know why.

Gees, i nearly bought a Prado with the early D4D before opting for the Paj.

Imaging having an issue like that half way up the Canning! How peevd would you be!

Looks like Toyota reputation for reliabilty (in Australia) is at question.
A nice opportunity ACA or today tonight.

Class action is a good strategy to get toyota to rethink their shameful behaviour.
I can't stand it when they pass the blame to protect their own arse.

Seen 2 prado's with campers on the back of trucks on trip to darwin earlier in the year both blown motors.
Talking to somebody we met on the way back and friends of theirs prado blew the motor due to injectors.
                    Second hand motor 4500 dollars
New injectors 4000 dollars this does not include labour he said they were middle of nowhere top of WA.

But seriously, Toyota have built there reputation on reliability. Mitsi have stood up on occasions...like the door rust issue on NS. When the issue comes down to significant money issue you cant trust any company really.
