    NM / NP DiD life

With the recent traffic on the forum about failures of these pumps, I'd like to obtain a clearer picture about how long these pumps last, and / or the motors. So

    - How many kms has your NM / NP DiD travelled?
    - Is it still going strong, or is it giving grief?
    - Specifically, have you had a pump failure?

The poll allows multiple responses to be selected, and it's public - we can all see who selected what.

You may have to add another option, something like .... Second hand vehicle, unknown if original pump
      02 NM 3.2, Auto, Exceed, I/C and sump guards, L&B 2" lift, 265/75/16 OPAT2.

Not mine but a friend who is not on the forum. NM model, pump failure 310,000km. Pump rebuilder in NZ said he has done a number and even asked before prompted if it had 300,000km on it.

                Car details

Vehicle at 210k now was at 137k when I go it 4 1/2 years ago
                Still on original everything
Only things that I have had to do is replace starter motor brushes as I had a small diesel leak on the return line that I ignored for a while, front crankshaft seal, and front swaybar bushes.
Replaced rear conpanion shafts, water pump, upper timing chain guide and timing chain tensioner as precautionary items.
But knowing this diesel injector pumps and auto trans can go at any time has me thinking that I should upgrade as I don't want to be stuck out in the middle of nowhere with a major breakdown.

Other than that the car runs awesome and is a dream to drive.

                    Just hit 370K

Has had all log book services since new plus oil change every 7500Km.

Pump reconditioned at 350k to prevent any problems. No problems with the pump before the rebuild but was heading off on a 16K trip, some remote and didn't want the worry. There was steel particles in the pump so was a $4K repair instead of a $1500 repair but as I said no problems what so ever with pump before rebuild. Couldn't say how much longer it would have gone without problems but reconditioner said it will never give problems again.

1 injector replaced before the trip as well. When doing a pre trip service the diesel specialist mechanic said 1 was stuffed. Couldn't tell the difference though with the "stuffed" one replaced.

Original top chain guide replaced at 195K and was just about stuffed. Was replaced again at 350K and was like new. Also had the chain tensioner replaced at 350K service.

Had to replace all the original wheel bearings at about 330K. 1 front and 1 rear failed with in a month of each other so replaced both front and both rear at the same time each failed.

Starter motor reconditioned at about 265K.

                    Original suspension replaced at 230K.

EGR block installed about 220K and had manifold cleaned at 350K. Mechanic said he had seen worse with less km's on the clock. Wouldn't need doing again as long as the blanking plate was in place.

Between oil changes on the last 16K trip the oil on the dip stick dropped about 4mm.

                    No transmission troubles as yet.

Could quite easily buy a new one but I am not going to. Want to see 500K on the speedo.

350k on the clock with original fuel pump. Replaced 1 wheel bearing. Original suspension replaced when I bought it at 210k. Suspension bushes due for replacement. Auto serviced by auto specialists this week and what a difference.

I'm the second owner, bought at 102,000km with log books, now at ~173,000km. Original pump/injectors. Replaced start motor brushes, brake rotors, top chain guide, upgraded suspension, that's it apart from regular servicing.
Currently making a bit of a clunk from the rear in 2H, mostly disappears when in 4H. That's in the too hard/busy basket at the moment.

If the pump/auto dies I will just repair it and carry on. Nothing newer on the market in my $30k budget that will do anything better than it so will be hanging onto it for a few more years until the kids are much bigger. Or until the budget expands to a Y62/200series......

                          191K and pump failure.

                          One TC switch.

                          One reverse switch.

Apart from that, the most reliable vehicle I have ever owned.

New Injector Pump . Plus some other things.

                            12/2002 NP DID manual GLS
Purchased in 2009 131000 k. Came from NSW south coast area with no towbar.
Companion shafts and axles replaced at 150000k after shaft popped out of diff. Standard suspension not towing.
Injector pump replaced with a new one at 195000k. Total cost $4800. April 2013.
Symptoms were occasionally rough and missing over about a week before engine light came on then heaps of smoke and very rough then complete failure and not able to start. Luckily car was at home and in garage. Trucked to Dealer.
Diagnosis was timing control valve and fuel cutoff solenoid out of spec.
Has not missed a beat since.
Oil pressure switch sender leaking and replaced 205000k.
Suspension upgrade to TJM XGS at 212000k.
Replaced radiator all hoses and belts.More as preventive maintenance. As no overheating issues. But only ever towed a box trailer full of camping gear.
New starter motor this year at 230000k.
                            EGR...Not blocked.
I have not had any clutch problems and think it still has original. Couldn't see any evidence of gearbox removal.
Mostly serviced buy me as per book but oil and filter at around 10-12000k every 12months.
Top timing chain guide replaced 2010 (was OK but starting to crack)
Valve clearance checked every 30000k usually only adjust a couple just out of spec.
Fuel economy has not changed since purchasing. 10L per 100 on a trip .12-13 around town or towing trailer.
Now at 240000 k and still drives great and happy to hold on to it for a few more years.
