    Fitting inlet manifold gasket

Im in the process of fitting a new inlet manifold gasket to my NS. These are the rubber coated kind. Due to a pipe comming from the block there is a clearance issue both in removing the old gasket and applying the new one.

I am assuming that the pipe is for coolent and that the hose needs to be removed from it to fit the new gasket without damage.
    Can anyone confirm?

Its been a while since I did my intake manifold, but I don't recall having any issues with that gasket, maybe I didn't replace it. I certainly didn't have to remove a coolant pipe.

Not a problem on some models, but i have had to remove the pipe on occasion. The gasket wont come off the studs with it in the way. Same for refitting.

You must have the manifold bolts with the springs and cups..

Hi I am about to clean my intake manifold too. Are the bolts with the springs and cups because of the rubber gasket or are they standard?

                Could I also ask:

                - should I also clean intercooler?
                - I saw an electrical trick to turn off the EGR. Is that dangerous?

                Cheers

Cups and springs are standard on some models.
I recently cleaned/replaced the following: my intake manifold, intake ports, valve adjustment, new rocker cover gasket, rocker cover oil seals, rocker cover bolt seals, intercooler, intake piping, and replaced the small length of fuel hose under the intake manifold. Do as much as you can while the fuel pipes are off. Its a massive job but well worth it. Its going to take at least a day and a half if your doing it by yourself. Probably longer.

Drop the sway bar by undoing the front mounts and remove the intercooler by droping it down. Refit the hoses prior to reinstalling. Take your time and be patient as its very frustrating to reinstall.

The resistor mod is not dangerous if done correctly. If your not confident consider buying a module. I havent bothered with either.

                    Thanks for that. Great information.

Could I please ask Some follow-up questions?

                    1. The intake ports worry me because I dont want to get any carbon in the cylinders. How did you go about cleaning them to avoid this?

                    2. Did you find Much Blocking the intercooler? How did you go about cleaning that?

                    3. You clearly know a lot about these engines. I am a little more of the novice although I've done lots of jobs over the years of different cars. Did you have any reference material that you used?

                    Cheers

Thanks for the compliment. Here is a link for what I did recently. Don't mind the grammer and spelling typing on the phone is pita.

I have a geniune cd copy of the manufacturer's workshop manual. The russian manual, which is identical in everyway is also very usefull. I also have the haines manual.

                        help please

Hi everyone I have dismantled and cleaned Intake on my NS SWB now ready to reinstall. But old rubber gasket stuck hard against the head. How do I get it off? I started driving a paint scraper down behind it but need a hammer to force it through. Really stuck there. Is there a technique? Heat gun or cut. Help please.
                        Cheers

                          Hi P Humphreys
I have copied my reply to your other post here:

It can be very hard to get off. Spraying some degreaser may help. I cleaned around the gasket this way first. Spray. Soak for a few minutes then wipe dry. Go over it again with clean damp rag a few times. Then dry. Then feel around with your scraper for a loose point to get under.

For me this worked after a few times.
