Hi all,
Got a weird noise issue that I hope someone has ideas about.
Got the Dobinsons springs and shocks installed over a week ago (24th of May). No issues from that day but on the 25th, in the afternoon, I started hearing dull rattling sound coming from the rear but only over small repeated bumps and at low speeds. Not very loud and cannot hear it from echos in narrow lane ways. Went back to Dobinsons twice to get them to check everything. They backed off the lower arm bolts and re-tightened them. They even had a guy sit in the rear cargo area to pin point the noise. They reckon it was coming from the right side and suggested something was lose in there but they weren't very sure.
On the weekend, I removed the splash guard that protects the fule pipes and removed a lot of crud, but nothing obvious that will cause noise. I even cable tied the rear end of it as there is only one scrivet holding it in a the rear. I also remove the shackles on the tow hitch and the tongue. I also checked the jack and the tools and all are secure. I even raised the 3rd row seat. I also opened the spare wheel carrier cover and checked everything was tight there. Went under the car myself and made sure the exhaust is not hitting any thing and the bash plates are all secure.
The sound is like someone tapping on a plastic trim and is not a single knock but several together and as mentioned above, only at speeds below 60. I can repeat it easily by driving over small repeated bumps on the road (like those temporary repairs). Going over large spoon drains and dips and speeed bumps etc, even at speed would not produce the noise.
The only thing that I can think of is perhaps something to do with the rear brakes as the only thing that happened outside of ordinary driving on the 25th, was emergency braking with the ABS going as some idiot pulled out in front of me.
Cheers,
Vlad
