got another unit/handheld to test it?

Drop the squelch to zero and listen on 40.

Unless you have a meter to test it. you may have to wait for a mate with a meter or a radio.

Any repeaters in you neck of the woods to test it on?

Unplug both end of the ant lead if you can, make sure the centre is not tied to earth. some like a 5/8 will have a short to earth, 1/2 & 1/4 will float.

Prob better to earth to something, and if you have a bar mounted ant, run another earth strap so the alloy bar is not the single point of earth.

Never key it without a load/ antenna.

Thanks mate just checked the book while i think of it where the cable joins the adapter to go into the uhf it has a little white plastic thing maybe that could be causing it not to pick up channels

I had the same problem with mine. If it doesn't transmit, and if it doesn't receive, the unit is faulty. Warrantee staff will send out a free postage bag for you to send to the warehouse, they'll test it first then send out a new replacement.

Good luck

Ive got an oricom and it's worked treat from out of the box..

I'd set the repeater on and go for a drive around on channel 7. You're prob just not picking anything up

THe best thing to do is grab a portable UHF - even if it's a cheapie "kids toy" and sync them to the same channel and test it that way. Like I said if your vehicle's unit isn't receiving or transmitting, then it's faulty.

or there is a dead short on the antenna lead?

Faulty antenna?

Nothing in or out on those.

Go sit down the road by those trucks and let them have it on chn 40.

Find some roadworks, be easy up your way... and scan around
