ATF temp gauge is critical if you want to keep your ATF in good condition and not stress the auto trans. Even when we finish Auto-Mate and we improve the AT programing I still think it will be a good idea to monitor ATF's.

That's correct OJ. The start Temp is the outside temp first thing in the morning. I can't wait for the Auto Mate. Looking forward to it

Hey OJ, have been following your progress with bated breath for a while now and can't wait.

Any ball park on when a lockup-mate or auto-mate might be commercialised?

Note I'm a very willing participant should you require a second trial vehicle to be sure to be sure.....

      Cheers

        Hi Wes,

You must have ESP, tonight I got my Challenger back from MM4x4 after 9 days of them testing and tuning the latest version of Lockup-Mate, they think this is the final version and the first round of kits should be availble in 4 to 6 weeks. I have not driven the final version yet and that will be limited to city driving for the next 4 days. Hopefully this Sunday I will have drive day with MM4x4 where we will do hills, country and beach driving, testing with both Lockup-Mate ON and OFF and record some realtime data on the MUT and plots some comparison graphs.

Preliminary work has already started on Auto-Mate and the plan is to have this installed and tested by Mid May before I do a Simpson crossing. If progress is good then Auto-Mate could be ready for sale from June/July.

          Hi Wes,

Have you been following the Lockup-Mate test reports on the MM4x4 thread?

Spooky hey? Thanks for the update mate. Realise the A/T will never be what it should be but if initiatives like this can get it at least half way decent, it's gonna be money well spent.

Just one question. Is it a piggy back connection? ie can I still run a scangauge to monitor A/T temps?

            Cheers

                Hi Wes,
I developed lockup-mate, and dropped car back to OJ tonight.
I reckon lockup mate development is now is pretty much done. OJ and I will do some final testing over the weekend to measure the improvements and confirm it ready for release.

Yes, the scan-gauge (or any OBD2 device) still works. lock-mate sits on the CANBus and just monitors the data traffic to read what it needs. It doesn't interfere with existing OBD2 devices.
The kit comes with an OBD2 Y-splitter cable, so you can plug both in together.

btw, half way descent? Pffft. I reckon it's even better. I've basically turn the auto into a damn good clutchless manual.

Sounds to good to be true for us long suffering auto PB/PC owners. Question of patience now. Do I go for the Lock-mate or hang out for the Auto-mate?

                    Hi Wes,

For 5 years I have been searching the world to find someone to be able to reprogram the Challenger's AT ECU unsuccessfully. 3 years ago I met "m-and-m" through a forum trip and we have become friends that catchup a few times a year 4wdring and camping so around the campfire and over a red or 2 on most occasions, the subject of the woeful Challenger Auto programming was often discussed. This got "m-and-m" thinking and with some encouragement and assistance fron "njswb" and after their successful paddle shift conversion for Pajero's, he started MM4x4 products last year. Though he cannot reprogram the AT ECU he has been able to design and build a piggy back ECU that turns the Challenger into a great clutchless manual transmission that retains all the factory programmed engine and auto protection features. The development could have stopped just there and sold the best lockup kit on the market but in the quest of excellence the idea of a fully automatic version of Lockup-Mate with modified gear shift patterns was conceived and the reason for Auto-Mate.

Will it be worth the 8 to 10 week wait and the extra money for Auto-Mate?
For me yes because I brought my first automatic trans car only to discover a major short coming which I always wanted to fix. Us engineers are strange individuals sometimes and even more so when we get together, we like to be able to find solutions for problems, it is in our DNA!

Just back from a trip towing our Jayco Outback Swift to Kwiambil NP and once again had it go into limp mode even though we were using manual mode and driving very carefully up Cunninghams gap. Doesn't matter how careful I am it still goes into limp mode and always with a semi sitting up my bum.

Averaged 18.2l/100 as well which is crap and it's only a light weight van. Love this car when not towing but frustrates the hell out of me with it behind me.

Not sure that overriding the Adaptive Learning Function is possible or even a good idea. I have found the ALF does not dumb the gearbox down when using sport mode or paddle shift in ā€œDā€ on a regular basis and since testing Lockup-Mate I have noticed the same behaviour of the ALF. I am thinking (hoping) this strait will continue when Auto-Mate is used. Only time and lots of testing will answer the question.

Doesn't matter how careful I am it still goes into limp mode and always with a semi sitting up my bum.

Averaged 18.2l/100 as well which is crap and it's only a light weight van. Love this car when not towing but frustrates the hell out of me with it behind me.
How long and how high is the Cunninghams Gap climb?

I use the SE Freeway in Adelaide from the Tollgate to the Crafers exit as the test climb it is just under 9km in length and rises 450ish metres. During my recent tow tests towing 1800kgs and using 3rd gear, foot flat to the floor to get maximum TC slip, max speed 65kph, I was able to force the first stage of limp mode where the auto will not change up from 3rd but I was not able the force the 2nd gear, cut the power, limp mode.
