soft metal in the fuel tank

greetings,

i was having an issue with the fuel gauge sometimes getting stuck on about 3/4 and while i had it removed i noticed tinsel like metal all over the sender unit, figured it was creating a short i cleaned it off, and had a look inside the fuel tank, there was so much metal everywhere. looked as if the tank lining was being flaking off, has anyone experienced a similar issue?

its a diesel, dont think its the h/p pump as not really experiencing any performance issues. was going to talk to the dealer and a diesel specialist tomorrow

Sounds like some form of algae. There are treatments available, but I haven't had any experience with them.

maybe some idiot before you sprayed silver gal near the filler.
