Default Catalytic Converter Delete

Is there any noticeable performance differences when no longer having a catalytic converters in a exhaust upgrade?
Why are the reasons people remove them?

Some people remove them if they have collapsed or sufferred other damage. Others because they want more performance. A road registered car must have a cat as it forms part of the emissions control.

I smashed out my cat about 3 months ago and I can honestly say that it made no noticeable difference to power but the exhaust note/tone went a bit deeper especially at idle. With over 400,000 KM on my NM pajero 3.2 DID I thought it might be a little clogged but to my surprise I could see daylight through 80% of it maybe because pajero is in good tune.
Just thought Id share my experience.

The 3inch PPD exhaust I put on mine removes the cat and 1 muffler. I noticed a small (I think) improvement in performance, but nothing major. I think it came on boost a little sooner. The dyno tune however completely changed the car. Smashing out cats is messy and probably not the best thing to be breathing in. I would probably leave it unless you think it's blocked.
