Wow - The cost of Pajero Brake Pads

I own a Pajero Sport 2013 model with about 55,000km on the clock. I was quoted R6500 by the Mitsu Dealership to replace all 4 brake pads.

I decided to shop around for a better deal with other brake specialists in Durban / Pinetown - only to be told that the computer sensors associated with the brakes system on the Pajero will be impaired unless I deal with the agents.

Does anyone know if this is true? (I am a little concerned about warranties too...)

No idea about how Pajeros are set up in your part of the worked but it sounds like BS to me.

I have changed (DIY myself) the rear pads, and the front rotors & pads, on mine (Australia) without any issue. I certainly didn’t find “computer sensors” that required the job to be done by a dealer or agent.

The only issue you would come across is if you adjust the handbrake shoes for any reason, say if you needed to machine the rotors and wanted to de adjust before removing them. There is a procedure for doing this. If you just turn the wheel a few clicks the Electric hand brake ECU will detect a change and throw a fault code. It could also overlaod the actuator motors and damage the system.

As long as the replacement pads have the ‘sensors’ and the wires to plugin (this would just be the low pad/ wear alert sensor I guess) then you should be fine.

I have looked at the online Global Service Manual for the Pajero Sport and there is nothing special about the brake pads, changing pads or discs except for the normal engineering practices.

However there is specific actions to be taken in relation to changing the park brake pads of the electric park brake system.
When the shoes are replaced there is a specific bedding in processed.

When the electric/vacuum actuator is replaced or the park brake cables are manually disconnected then you can get fault codes C2250 and/or C2251 and there is a process for resetting the park brake ECU which you must use a MUT III.

Ha X2, as I didn’t notice the 2013 year also.
The 2013 Pajero Sport / Challenger brake system is straight forward. Only trap I am aware of is the caliper bleed nipples should be cracked open when pushing to pistons back in. This should be standard practice on all brake systems but stiill many mechanics do not do this.
