    3.8 SOHC NS Pajero

    Hi
I know there are plenty of posts on engine oil for this car but as mine is a relatively new purchase, and it has done 200k klm, just wanted to know what people are using nowadays.

My understanding from reading many posts is that for Australian conditions 10w40 seems to be generally preferred. 15w50 is sold by MM for the vehicle but don’t know if this spec is based on the cars being old, or this is what they used in the new vehicle. Other owners report a wide range of viscosity oils used, eg 5w60.

I know that an API SM spec is required, so any API SN will do.
Regarding SAE viscosity specification there is a wde range sold for this car and a wide range is reported by owners in these forums.
Some recommend semi synthetic or mineral bsed oils if changes are 6 monthly.
Some recommend full synthetic if changes are done 6 or 12 monthly.
There are so many claims made by manufacturers - who knows what to believe.

My car does not blow any smoke but uses a bit between changes, no doubt seeping past the valve stem seals.

I do not know what the engine oil pressure is with 15w50 MM oil but am going to see if Torque Pro will report it. Am I wrong thinking that the oil pressures for the cold and warm engine are really what the selection should be based on (aside from cleaning action, and durability)?

I will keep the car until it dies or petrol become too expensive!

    Any pointers Guys?

Can an adminstrator change the title of the post to include engine oil?
