I wonder how they are testing it. If its looking for fatigue or similar, will newer cars with low kms show it? Also does this mean we aren't getting the turbo recall that other countries are getting?

      Thanks Gus
I am not in a rush to book. Let them "practice" so long on others then I will fall inline

I just want to see what the notice is first, this whole checking and if needed seems like cost minimization talk to me? surely a bad batch of parts can be traced back with VIN or do they check for fatigue in which case as per barky's post.

any who will have them do the sump leak when it goes in as well.

Had the sump leak done under warranty when the rear main was replaced.

Like others mine is a Sept 2014 build..hopefully all was fixed before then. Will just have to wait and see. Don't know how they can test something with just 2000 klms on and see if it is outside limits. Unless of course it was installed as an issue from the factory.
            cheers

              Thanks for the heads up

On ya Gus! Better let my dealer know who I am and my vehicle details so they know where to send the letter. Never been to the dealer yet.

I need to call mitsubishi tomorrow, I just had my pajero serviced for 15000k last week and they didn't mention anything about this recall.

Not knowing the full story I'd hazard a guess they are inspecting what tensioner is fitted as some have been replaced over time or maybe only some were dodgy not traceable by batch? Then they are inspecting the chain for damage caused by a loose tension and if in poor condition will be replacing the timing chain. So a low km car like your own shouldn't really need a new chain hopefully.

I can't remember exact dates but in the thread about chain tensioner replacement some people were getting superseded parts still and some were getting the new version last year. Who knows what date the production line got the new model tensioner?

I'll haave to call MMA to ensure they have my details.

Interesting if it's actually 2007 onwards as well, as this would exclude any 06 NS. See what happens when the recall notice comes out then all will be revealed

Didn't know there was an 06 pajero

Or are you talking build dates?

Thanks for the heads up Gus.

I'll wait for my letter and action in due course.

I am very interested to understand what the process is exactly. e.g. which parts are removed to access the tensioner/chain for checking, how it is checked and what the process it to replace it.

Also, would they need to drain oil or coolant to do either the check or the replacement (like if the timing cover is removed). Do they just put the old stuff back in, or will they give new fluids?

I guess all of these questions will be answered over the next few weeks. I look forward to any feedback people can give of their experience and try to gain a good understanding of exactly what is done.

                                This forum is great!

Updated my details with MMA just now.
Spoke to dealer who booked me in next month.

Will be interesting to talk to them. I have changed my tensioner to the updated part# already. Will be good to know if there is anything wrong with the chain itself.
