Fuel pump gone at 285 k"s

CORRECT ME IF I AM WRONG, MY NP IS GOING TO BE ASSESSED TO DETERMINE IF THE PUMP NEEDS TO BE REPLACED DUE TO ROUGH IDLING . IS IT TRUE WHAT THE MECHANIC SAID ( and other Forum fellows think is correct) "260-280,000 K'S IT SHOULD BE THE TIME" IS THIS APPLICABLE TO ALL MODELS OR JUST THE NP?
GETTING READY FOR THE POSSIBILITY OF THIS COMING EXPENSE I'VE BEEN LOOKING AT OTHER NP'S BUT THEY ALL SHOW 180-300'S ON THE CLOCK AND THIS MAKE THINK MAY AS WELL REPAIR MINE.
REPAIR OR GO FOR ANOTHER THAT THE PUMP HAS BEEN DONE? SHOULD I GO FOR THE NEXT MODEL?
ANY THOUGHTS? I WOULD APPRECIATE ADVICE AS COMING MONDAY I WOULD LIKE TO BE MENTALLY READY...
AS ALL WAYS THANK YOU ALL. CLEM

Only NP & NM models (with 3.2 motor) have that pump. If needed, I'd check the new pump price before agreeing to get it rebuilt, as similar cost & new pump includes new sensors.
If thinking of another NP, you could be buying other issues (& no guarantee on the pump) + buy/sell costs + your car is not worth much with a crook pump, so if your car is otherwise good, I'd probably fix it & keep it, or get a newer model.

The NS has a different pump (cheaper & no real issues), but the NS auto has a DPF that has caused grief to quite a few people. The NT is a better bet and more likely to be a worthwhile upgrade.

If you know and love your car get the pump done and continue to enjoy it.

It will be hard to sell unless you fix it anyway....

      $4500+ ish

A specialist in Lismore Northern NSW has done loads, not all diesel places have the right tools to do the job.....

        Hi Clem

Your mileage is right for a pump rebuild – unfortunately. The people in Lismore mentioned in the above post are Lismore Diesel Service – they did mine a couple of years ago and I am very happy with their work. This is their website if you feel like contacting them …

Check it’s not your inlet butterfly solenoid before spending $5k+ on your pump. It’s a very common idle issue on that model.

            Hi Clem,

Mine was done by Lismore Deisel and I can highly recommend them as well.
Mine wasn't showing any symptoms but I got it reconditioned at 350K to prevent any problems.
They said once the bearing is replaced there should be no further problems with the pump so it's not something that will require the same work in years to come.
Just about to hit 90K since it was done nearly 3 and a half years ago and all is well with the pump.
The main bearing in the pump was just starting to break down so I wasn't able to get away with the cheap fix but it was less than a new pump. Yours has less KM's than mine had so maybe not as much damage yet.

Might be worth your while to go for a trip to Lismore and get it checked out by people who know what they are doing and know this model Pajero.

Check around for prices. I’m hunting issues with a intermittent no start issue. I was quoted $4600 for a new pump from Mitsubishi, $3500 by Sydney Diesel for a rebuild and $6500 by local mob. Lismore diesel never got back to me. The other option is a bit of a risk but you can get a rebuilt pump form ebay for $2500 shipped from Europe. ( all numbers are rough, don’t hold the companies to it)

                  A cut & paste from the Ebay website a few moments ago;

"When you list items on eBay.com.au, include GST in the price. You may not add GST to the final price after a buyer has won or bought an item."

From that, I read that an item listed at $100 would cost the buyer $100 total, and that eBay would take the GST from the seller and add the 10% GST to the sellers fees for the sale.

I am always buying from Ebay and any overseas transactions get 10% added at the checkout, I always pay with Pay Pal.

Either Ebay or Pay Pal must give the 10% to the government...

                      Different with sales in Oz.....

Out with the old & in with the new!!

Hi fellows, sorry I am a little late but I finally cut my losses and bought a later model Pajero with only 104,000 Kms and sold the NP (very sorry to see it gone though)
This 2011 Pajero is the Platinum model but doesn't have Bullbar and other features the NP had but it drives and looks like new ( I hope it last me...) Merry Christmas and I thank you to all of you that put a bit of time to advice me and sharing your experience with me. Clem
