4m40 2.8 auto box power issues and mpg issues

    Pajero 2.8td auto LWB

Most of time it's ok but not overly powerful considering its tuned (both fuel pump and turbo running 16psi)

I suspect auto box causes it to feel a little sluggish compared to a manual

It always starts and runs ok, bit of a cough and splutter when cold

Sometimes it can be in 3rd or 4th/OD and even with pedal floored it simply wont accelerate at all (revs don't increase either)

It has happened in 2nd a couple of times but then clears and pulls ok again

And usually get 25mpg, but last tank full it's only managed 18! Not loaded or towing and driven exactly the same

    Any ideas?

      Are you getting fuel boost?

I once experimented on manually controlling the air pressure going to the fuel boost diaphragm hoping to get better fuel economy, but instead I got sluggish response from the transmission and won't kick down even when I floored the pedal, ended up getting worse fuel economy.

I have the same 2.8 Turbo Intercooler, all city driving I get worse 1gal=15miles

      Take a look.
