Lol, yeah - I'm not gonna buy a spring compressor Besides it's at least twice that price here in Norway.
I have the other links saved.

Have a look at 33 Front Suspension and "shock absorber assembly " in detail.
I can tell you that part 9 is very important as it acts as a bump stop at full compression
From what I hear it's #4 that is difficult to remove from the old struts. Maybe not in Oz, but they salt the roads here 4-5 months so rust is a big problem with all cars here.

Unless you have a heavy duty strut compressor it is just not worth the risk.
Just by preassembled struts an save yourself the hassle and danger of disassembling and reassembling struts.

          OJ.
Yeah thanks. I'm not going to risk it myself. Will hand it over to the pro's.
You guys don't know hoe privileged you really are in Oz. The one place that sells OME in Norway only sells the basic kit, loose parts. They said they could order the mounting hw from ARB for me, but with regular shipping time from Oz and at a price of about AU$210 per side.

Might be worth checking before you go any further.
Even if you can use factory components, Old Jack is right, new parts is the best option.
No doubt new parts are better. I spoke with one guy who said he bought new hw from Mitsubishi, so sounds like they'd fit. Cost was pretty high though at NOK 14K (AU$ 2100), but he changed some bushings and stuff as well.

mmannion - Thanks for this write up! Having a read made the install much easier knowing the steps needed rather than trying to work it out along the way.

I started at 11am last Sunday, took time to source all my tools (kids had my jack handle hidden in the garden - thanks guys!) and was done by 7pm. This included all new insulators and the install of a set of airman air bags in the rear.

Our NP DiD with 360,000km and a set of Koni’s rides 100% better than it did beforehand - even though the front springs are too high. We will be swapping them for the set below what’s in there when Dad gets his lift sorted soon - he will buy the springs we need and he will run the ones we have.

              We went with King Springs:
              Front: KCFR-34HHD (50-100kg)
              Rear: KCRR-35HD (100-300kg)

Front is too high with dual batteries and our alloy bullbar. We will be going to swap the fronts for a set of KCFR-34HD springs - just “regular” raises springs.

              Cheers

              Bennie

Other rides: "Ruby Scoo" my lifted L series Subaru and my "Redback" Targa top Brumby - only mods are 5 poster bullbar and nicer dashboard from a coupe

                Hi all,

I have fitted Bilstein struts with King springs, MD and have a question regarding the original equipment.
I think I haven’t set it up right as I’m getting a knocking noise over some bumps.
What parts from the original struts should be re used? I’ve replaced the upper rubber bushes and reused some parts but not sure if they need to be reused.
photos of a correct install would help if anyone has some.
                Thanks

When I changed mine, both the top and bottom rubber strut mounts in the rear were flogged and needed replacing.
The front shocks I bought pre assembled (Dobinsons) didn't have the rubber spring seat at the base of the coil like the original ones did, and I believe these made noise. When I eventually upgraded the springs again, I put new rubber spring seats in. (The original ones were actually in pretty good when I disassembled the old struts, but I felt better putting new ones in)

Here are some photos of the front...

I used these in the rear, the upper ones are much easier to fit as they are shaped to fit the end of the spring.

Very often a knock occurred after fitting the shockie and tightening whilst car was in the air. Put the shockies on and lower car to ground...tighten shocks when the weight of the vehicle is on all 4 wheels. This has happened to quite a few on here, including myself.

I’ll be taking out the rear and front setups again and will take a look at doing this then.
                        cheers.
