Hey Dave wrong time of the year for whiting, Close season from 1 jan to 1 April

Surf fishing you need to get down to Goolwa beach out to the murry mouth 4x4 beach access only.

Like was already said, You have the Murray Mouth at Goolwa, Try the 32 or 42 Mile crossing on the Coorong on the way up. Patience, berly and right conditions and you'll get something there (mostly late evening). Whiting the best I know of is going over to K.I. and getting a charter boat (there are reasonable priced ones) In Adelaide itself, not too much off the Jettys, Onkaparinga River from the mouth to fairly far upstream you get a good choice of catches, all sealed road accessible. Best in Adelaide is with a boat though if you can get access to one.

try port willunga beach just north of the Star of Greece restaurant - should get a feed of silver whiting there - maybe some bream, tommies and mullett - early morning usually the best

              Yep Dave
Boat ramp at St Kilda plenty of fishing out from there, Theres always good fishing most places in Adelaide, well when there biting .
Go straight up port wakefield road and turn left from the city to St kilda, theres a cafe and a fishing shop right by the boat ramp there.

                    St Kilda boat ramp

The kiosk at St Kilda opens at 5am in the morning. They have fresh tube worms and other bait for sale. You can purchase your boat ramp ticket from the store there. There are yellow fin whiting bream and snook from the end of the breakwater.

Thanks Sevrum, good info there. That means I can shit the bed and do a couple of hours fishing before the missus and kids get up!

Fishing was sheethouse! Big mistake was not taking my boat as I soon found out that land based options were non existant unless you head south. Had a fish around Adelaide Port where all the new cars are stored and caught a couple of throwbacks but it was really an excuse to have a grog beside the water and watch a few ships come in.
But there was bigger fish to catch while I was in Adelaide (hello Mitsubishi) so in a sense it still was a productive trip. In hindsight maybe I should have gone on a charter.
