    Installing Extractors for 3.8l petrol NP

    Hey there,

    This is my first post. I've read a lot of the clubs posts and they have helped me heaps. I've changed my own timing belt, put in lift springs and shocks, basically trying to do all my own mods.

    So thanks for all your help!!

    I want to get a bit more power out of the 3.8l V6 petrol in my NP. I've read a bit and thought extractors would be a good idea to start with. My question is, How hard are they to install in an NP? Is there anything I need to know, like will I need to remove the starter, lift engine off mounts, remove power steering (that wasn't fun when doing the timing belt!) or other challenges? When I crawl under the Paj it looks pretty good to get at all the bolts so am I being too confident?

    What are your thoughts? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

    I have an NM Paj and had to replace exhaust manifold due to the left one cracking, I took it to an exhaust specialist who advised replacing both with extractors as cracked exhaust manifolds are common on nm Pajeros and just one manifold to replace would cost $1,500- where replacing both with extractors would only cost me $1,200-
    I've had them on for about 6mnths now and have not noticed any increase in performance.
    Personally I think if your manifolds are ok don't waste your money.

      I fitted Extractors to my NM in the shed on car stands. It was easier than I thought it was going to be. I'm not saying it was like an old HQ Holden or anything that easy but doable.

      I didn't have to remove much more than the battery and battery tray. I will say it's an easier job than the timing belt.

        Thanks Pugsley and Spin,

        I ended up replacing the exhaust manifolds with extractors, when I took them off the left side was cracked anyway! so win win. I bought them online and fitted them myself, took 2 hours. If you do it yourself make sure you re-tighten the bolt after you burn them in, they will loosen and warp the header. Thanks guys.
