    Stiff gear lever action.

After my 99NL has been parked for a while (several weeks, generally), the gear lever action is very stiff to the point that it is often difficult to get it into gear. This is especially so with reverse without first engaging a forward gear (again, initially with difficulty) and moving a little.

What, possibly, is the cause of this and can it be rectified easily so that the action is free despite lengthy periods parked?

i would try going for a drive on a close open road so you can stay in top gear and give the gearbox a chance of warming up, when the box gets warm the oil also slightly thins so it should get into all areas where it may have become dry in the top selector areas.
