Where to get work done in SA on my Pajero?

Hello everyone, new owner of a 5 speed manual 05 3.2l NP Pajero 218k km

I'm thinking of getting some work done in the near future but not sure where to go to get it done... Morpowa only does tune and fits exhaust, and willall don't do them at all now. Below is some of what I'm thinking... Already have 2" lift, bull bar, roof rack, awning, 31" tyres, UHF (unsure if works properly though LMAO), also have a hand winch the guy threw in that should go on the bullbar ahah.

Thinking of getting some work done soon to increase reliability/longevity and some performance while I'm at it...

I'm just wondering what you guys would recommend to get done first, will be getting an exhaust, as the cat have a hole in it, so just going to get turbo back and oil catch can at the least.

Also an EGR delete module (Electronically shuts it off) and clean for the buildup.

I'd also like to get some gauges for EGT, boost setup. Thinking pillar pods and maybe digital ones like these https://www.autobox.com.au/pillar-po...C8djJ6UtKUuADY

If you have any recommendations or can tell me more about these for my NP Pajero and get an estimate in price for all of the above, that would be awesome!

P.S Exhaust recommendations would also be great, but not wanting to spend big bucks on the exhaust ahah. Thinking Scott's Rodds https://www.scottsrods.com.au/produc...pnmdid32r-409/

You could consider swapping to a top mount intercooler, our intercoolers are front and low and the factory bash plate is a bit how ya going. People seem to like that mod a lot, I haven't done it as it's pricey to get it done professionally and I haven't done the research to do it myself.

Cross Country are in Adelaide though and people all over Aus buy their intercooler kits. Problem with the NP is that the way they do it covers the oil fill port so they weld a fill port extension into the housing to get around that. They quoted me north of 3k to do it for an NP which is a shame because I think most of their kits are just bolt on jobs under 2k. Bit more than I wanted to spend on this car but maybe you're up for that.

Guys on here reported better throttle response and slight fuel savings around town due to that. Pretty sizable output number increases for the guys that dyno'd it too. ~20% or so, there's a couple of real good threads on that. Other than a tune that's the only other mod I've really got in mind for mine. And you really want to tune after you get the intercooler changed if you're doing that.

If you're going to do EGR and meth injection, why not just delete the EGR entirely, like remove the pipe and install a plate over both the manifold ports. You could then just run your meth line into the EGR delete plate on the intake manifold, might be nicer than drilling and tapping the manifold itself or putting a hole in the hose. Easier to reverse if you have to as well.

100% agree that the factory intercooler is far from an optimal solution, but if you want a better solution, don't go top mount - I'd rather stick with the factory than do that. Depending on your bull bar, Pajero 12 also had some great outcomes by improving airflow through the factory intercooler, although it is still down low behind a bash plate.

A top mount may perform acceptably at highway speeds, but if you're going to use your Pajero offroad, you won't get the airflow through the intercooler to keep things cool (just like most of us don't with the factory intercooler), and heat soak from the engine will simply make it harder again to cool the intake air.

A number of members here have gone a decent front mount, in front of the radiator. Kits are made by Jonny Tig and HPD, and a few have gone the DIY route with coolers from China. Bigger coolers with better air flow, behind the grille and away from the front bash plate.
NT Platinum. DiD Auto with 265/70R17 ST Maxx, Lift, Lockers, Lockup Mate, Low range reduction, LRA Aux tank, bull bar, winch, lots of touring stuff. Flappy paddles. MMCS is gone!

Thanks for the info mate! I don't think i want to go top mount, but an upgraded intercooler very well might come. Also after a few opinions and research I'm not so sure about the water/meth injection.

Also would you/others know when you need to start bolstering up other components to suit the upgraded performance? Gearbox/clutch wise I'm guessing should be fine, but what about other bits?

Thanks mate! Yeah I've seen the HPD intercooler relocation kit, might be something to look at. Is Pajero 12 a member here?

Contacted Jonny Tig and they said they don't do one for the NP, but I could come down and they're keen to design one for the NM-NP models.

Included pic of my rig, I'm not exactly sure where the intercooler is, but I'm guessing mine isn't great for the standard intercooler by looking at it?

I worked with Pajero 12 to help him solve his high Air Inlet temperatures on his NW as his Bushskinz plates and factory steel bullbar allowed sand in build up and block the intercooler.

Here is the thread of what we did and the tests we carried out.

I see from your photo you have a ARB split pan design bullbar and a factory front bash plate. Around the same time I was also talking with Geopaj as he was experimenting with different front bash plates, factory original, Bushskinz, modified Bushskinz and custom design, all to see if he could get an improvement in the airflow through the intercooler. I do not believe he had any suscess unfortunately.

Only thought I have is to fabricate a rectangular duct that takes air from one of the side air inlets of the split pan and directs it to the face of the intercooler. THis duct would need to be close fitting at the intercooler to prevent ram air from escaping rather than passing through the intercooler.

Does anyone have any recommendations for where to go to directly tune the ECU around Adelaide? Morpowa can do it I think, want $1,500 though.

Powertech tuning said they only do it with a chip and do it that way... I said that you can tune it direct with alientech stuff, this was their response -

"We do have Alientech and can bench the ECU’s but we choose not to as they can be troublesome esp with the costs involved in the fuel pump etc. That’s why we would use a unichip in this instance."

I don't get this as either way you're increasing power and torque and fuel pump output if you add more fuel... Any insight as to what they are trying to say? Or are they just trying to sell me the unichip?

I'll probably go with a bigger intercooler plus relocation ahah. Cheers for the info and link though, will have a squiz through the rest of it.

                Hi,
In your initial post you mentioned wanting to increase reliability/longevity, as well as performance.
I would recommend starting with reliability first. I would recommend step 1 is making sure all maintenance issues are up to scratch. Then I would investigate the diesel pump. Many members have had these fail (including my uncle-in-law). I believe it is a $5-7,000 fix but is significantly cheaper if the pump is overhauled before it fails.

I also assume, increasing performance will also increase the load in the pump??? At 218k km, unfortunately, yours is right in the zone for pump issues.

Hmm, alright, I'll look into that, any idea who to go to for that (in SA) and what it has cost others in the past?

Also, by overhaul, do you mean rebuild it?

I’ve never had a Gen 3 (NM, NP) - just a Gen 2 & Gen 4 - so don’t have first hand experience (other than my uncle-in-law’s one that failed. That one has been owned by him from new and is lower mileage than yours).

From what I’ve read on here, there’s only 2-3 places in Australia who have the equipment to recondition the diesel pump. I don’t think there is anyone in SA who will actually do the reconditioning but most placed will do the remove/refit and send it to one of the specialists.

                    There’s quite a few threads on the forum about diesel pumps. For example;
