So the water emulsifies at 30000psi, perhaps? I think the Paj runs around the 22000 - 25000psi mark but in any case it is after the filter.

60 years in the game? Puts the guy somewhere around 80 wouldn't it? The modern CRD has only really come to the fore in the past decade so no matter how many years in the game the most experience anyone can have with the engines we're talking about is around a decade perhaps a little longer.

So the suggestion is to not fit a filter but must have a water watch device in a system that has water emulsified (now a part of the diesel fuel itself) and therefore probably isn't detectable anyway in that state. So why then isn't the factory fitted water alert sufficient?

I dunno but there seems to be some conflicting statements.

      Thanks for posting.
I now have a 200 series and have been researching how to improve the filtration system of my new vehicle. The factory filter is around 10 micron @ 95% efficiency. As stated above the Donaldson filter material does a great job in removing water.

With the 200 series the pump delivers up to 275L/H and requires a filter that has a much higher capacity than the ...615. Some sites quote 160L/H for the 200 series fuel pump. The 200 series is very dependent on fuel flow to cool the pump. There is a bit of information on LCOOL re additional filter kits causing flow restrictions. My belief is that they are not high enough capacity. As flow rates increase pressure drop also increase and pressure drop can also become a major issue.

Flow restrictions can certainly cause damage to fuel pumps and this is likely to be the reason why some diesel specialists not recommend their use.

Many sites suggest not using a 2 micron FM100 on the 200 series and recommend a 5 or 30 micron filter.

I also looked at the water watch system. My understanding is that this only removes water droplets and not emulsified water. Happy to be corrected.

With Donaldson's help I have now found a filter that is almost 400L/H and removes 95% of emulsified and whole water and is rated at 3 micron 99% efficiency. Same filter medium as the ...615.

I think I have found 2 locations where I can install it however I need to buy a shoe horn and some brave tablets to help the installation process.
