Default Have you adjusted the mixture on a deisel injection pump?

G'day,
I recently purchased a NG 2.5 tdi to replace the ND 2.5tdi that I rolled last year. since I got it it's been giving me a really poor mileage (650km) . It's exactly the same mechanicaly as the ND & that gave me 850 - 900km. I've changed the injectors w/ no result. It's blowing black smoke. I can either swap out the pump w/ the old one or adjust the mixture/timing. Some advice on making the adjustments would be very greatly appreciated.

Cheers
Dex

Just some general advice first... don't twiddle the pump unless you have a EGT gauge hooked up for monitoring. Kinda goes bang if EGT goes up too high under load.

Remind me how many km on this motor... might be struggling as it's down on power not fuel.

Jaydee,
G'day. Thanks for responding. It's got 360,000 on the clock but compression is very good. I havn't tested it but she flies up hills in 5th where I would have to shift down to 4th in the previous Paj which has 260,000. The smoke is black. It was looked after well so I figure the rings have been replaced. Err what's an EGT gauge?

I'm interested in how this goes as I have an NG 2.5TDI and I'm only getting 650km a tank as well.

G'day donald,
Hmm. I've been going to a diesel injection specialist & they won't wanna open it up whatever they do & quote min 4-8 hrs on anything. I spose it's only good practice but it's prohibitive for me. Diesel mechs are a bit like hens teeth around here but I'll try that route if I can. the thing runs hot too. you know how the heat gauge rests on the cold line? (right guys?) well mine will get a little under half way & I know that's hotter than it should run. I'm gonna flush out the radiator & block next time I get under the bonnet.
