Which Pajero is a 1991? NH?

    Greetings,

My first post . Just bought a 1991 Gen 2, 2.5TDIC, 3 door. Is it referred to as a NH?

Also wanted to know if the 1991 2.5 came with lower gearing, I heard something about it having 5.29 gears versus having 4.875 in the 2.8s? Could someone please validate this for me?

    Thanks,

    Rao.

It's either an NG or NH depending on the body shape, according to tech database in the general info section the NH 2.5 had the 5.29, NG had the 4.875.

What month was it built? The NG model ran to April 91.

It's a Gen 2 with round headlights. So NG or NH?

        Thanks.

NH doesn't really have round headlights as such. Maybe it is an NG

              Probably an ng?
Could go on for days and be the longest thread on here. Have you tried checking the compliance plates? Will be written there

Read the manufacturer plate and take a couple pics and post them. The perfectly round headlights is the Gen1 style, and the soft rounded headlights are Gen2.

That ain't an NG, it's a JDM (Japanese Domestic Market) NH! You can never rely on the info provided in car-ads, as the seller can fill in the yr, & then the wrong model/engine/body-type gets posted!
That said, there were quite a few components that both models shared & some were changed for the NJ (eg; electrical-wiring, no 2.6L 4cyl.), but a major model-shape change always means a change in model-designation (& gen.).
Anyway, many more answers to Pajero questions can funnily enough be found in the forum's FAQ thread; http://www2.pajeroclub.com.au/forum/...isplay.php?f=4

First post and I'm loving this community Super help.

The front of my Paj is exactly the same as this one. So its a JDM NH then I guess.

Also, this means I'm running 4.875 gears? I'm only really worried about the gears because of two reasons:

1- when i do 100kph, the engine RPM is at 3200. This seems pretty high to me.
2- I have in the past experienced the wrath of a cracked piston in a gen 1 with the same engine on the highway. I didn't know at the time that keeping the speed at 120-130kph is detrimental. Obviously it is, but 100kph at 3200rpm smells like a disaster waiting to happen. Thoughts?

                        Thanks.

My ratio is also 4.875 and driving a manual, in 5th gear at 100 kph my RPMs are at 3000 spot on.

Is your rig automatic? It should have an O/D function if I remember auto trans cars correctly (not sure about the Pajero family, but my Commodore did).

Also I'm wondering if you can install a small ratio cogs in your diffs?

Hi. Nopes, its a manual gearbox. I also know from experience that 100 KPH should be 3000rpm. It could be that my RPM gauge needs recalibration, hopefully nothing more. Is it true that the 4D56 should not be revved continuously beyond 3000 rpm on the motorway? Thanks.
