For a LS the adjuster is under the centre console. There is a plastic blank just below where you put your fingers to lift up the centre lid (its about 4cm square) you can pop it with a small screw driver. You need a deep socket 8mm or 10mm from memory and give the nut a couple of turns (clockwise) until your get back to 4-5clicks job done. If you dont have a deep socket you will need to remove the rear section of the centre console which requires a finding the few screws....again not a major job, then you can adjust with a ring spanner.

I was under the impression back that nut off a few turns anti clock wise .. then jack up rear of car(place jack stands for safety).. remove dust caps at lower drums x2 backing caps adjusters are in there click till wheel doesn't turn .. then back off a few clicks till wheel spins
. . Then back to centre console to adjust lever as mentioned 6-8 clicks ..

You can add the extra step of removing drum and inspect pad linings, but unless you regulary drive around with the handbrake on you should get most of the cable stretch with just the cable adjust under the console.

If you keep on adjusting the under console adjustment then eventually the hand brake will loose its holding power due!to the geometry of the system. On my Challenger this happened after 80,000 kms of quick "Dealer Service Adjusting". At 80K I did the individual wheel adjustments and then the centre console adjustment and the holding power of the handbrake increased significantly. Having an auto and going off road, a strong handbrake is essential so when you have to stop and leave the car on an incline, you can use Neutral and the handbrake rather than loading up the Parking Pin.

I adjust at the brake drum 1st, usually dont need to adjust the cable at the console after that adjustment is done.

That would be all good except for the fact that 99% of the time an adjustment would have been made at hand brake lever by Service workshop .. therefore resulting in over adjustment and dragging hand brake shoes and glazing ... so if one does it as per workshop manual no problem will arise ...

Correct LR, after 80,000kms of short cut adjustments, the shoes were glazed but still had plenty of friction material left, drum in disc was also ok just very dirty. Cleaned drum and deglazed shoes, refitted and adjusted.
Note: Service Manual states to release all tension on the console adjuster, adjust each wheel separately and then adjust console adjustment.

Do them at the drum. Maybe after several years give the cable a tweak but that's about all it needs. As OJ said if the drum adjustment is out and only the handle screw is wound up eventually it will feel tight but it won't hold the car on a hill.

The console adjustment only takes up slack
