My father inlaw has bought himself one for a work ute and he is real happy with it.
Although he isnt too hard on it, so I cant comment about that.

I looked into EGR blanks for him when he got it, on a couple of different forums and they DON'T throw an engine code with a blanking plate in.

Everyone rabbits on about how harsh the mines are on vehicles. The toughest test of any vehicle in this country is when you put it in the hands of a remote community aboriginal. These guys aren't interested in poofy electronics, smooth rides, velour seats, Bluetooth or any other gimmicky crap that sucks people into getting one. They want a tough vehicle that will carry anything, go anywhere, is reliable, can be worked on by the owner/mates, diesel, spares are readily available and tyres are also readily available.

Toyota Land cruiser is the vehicle of choice. Not that gay Prado badged as a Land cruiser either. The only utes you will see in these remote areas are the hilux.
These community vehicles take a hell of a bashing. No water crossing is too deep, no road too corrugated and no load too heavy. In many cases how they treat these vehicles would make you cry! Where they take them just makes you wonder why!!!

          X100!!

I've seen some of the places they've managed to get a Falcon, with a cruiser they're near unstoppable!

Is that how you become a "Auto Expert". Just read the spec sheet. I thought to do a car review would require you to drive the cars.

Btw where can you buy a Ranger, Colerado or BT50 for $32k. I'll get one tomorrow.

Why does not having 6 speed transmission all of a sudden make the ute a piece of crap?? Interesting way of choosing a "good" vehicle.

Well ranger has done 40,000km. Second set of tyres D697s. Had 3 wheel alignments and still pulls left badly. 122L tank and I can nearly get 800km out of it and 95% would be country driving. It does have plenty of mumbo and would leave my NS in its black smoke. Pulls like a train and the brakes work well. Saved me a couple of times v's Kangaroos. Hazard of my job. Would I buy one as a tow vehicle? No... Would it last on the mines? No..... Pehaps I have a bad one?

Employee is getting a PXll in Feb. meant to be a lot better... I would hope it is!!

I work at a Pilbara port loading ships full of Iron Ore. The fleet is majority made up of hilux and 70s series.
Last year or so they started bringing in the PX Rangers. At least 3 of them have now had their motors replaced.

I have now done 105000km in the ranger. It's due for renewal in September. I think I'll renew the lease for another two years. Although I don't like it, the upgrade option of a PX2 is no better. The transmission has had an overhaul, still chews tyres like lollies lol, and fuel consumption remains at 12-13L per 100 which is disappointing. On the good side is the power, plenty of it, and pretty strong. I hit a ram a few months back at about 80km/hr. the bill bar bent back and touched the car but sprung back into position with no damage worth worrying about.

I also had a radio issue which was sorted out after getting on another ranger I realised mine wasn't right. It is pretty good and I now too don't like the system in the Paj. That is the only thing I like more about the ranger over the Pajero. Although it has more power it is no where near as capable off road which is far more important to me.
