    which engine oil?

Did a forum & google search but nothing came up so,,

Which type or make of engine oil is best / recommended to use for pajeros?

Ive allways used Valvoline deisel extra 15/40 in my Nissan, this stuff is real good value & available in 10ltr tubs, is it ok for pajeros or what should I get?

    Cheers.

I used to use Penrite HPR Diesel 5 here in Melb (cold) but changed to HPR Diesel 15 when touring north with the boat on the back, might go back to the HPR Diesel 5 for winter as it is quieter on starts and cold short distance running.

I use hpr15d in my 3.2, it had a leaky turbo when i bought it at 140, and was using just under 1l per 5,000km, have now done 173 and no more leaks at the turbo and doesnt use a drop so im pleased.

          Oh,

Im in Nz so winter now, -3 < -5 over night & up to +17 in the day, always used the same oil all year around before, summers only get to about +31.

So you are using semi synthetic, is that a choice or a coincidence?

Penrite recommend either HRP 15/50 which is a semi or DEISEL FX 15/50 which is a mineral, they dont specify the HRP 5 for the pajero.

Interesting Shell recommend Helix HX5 10/40 but this also comes in a HX5 K 15/50 especially for engines over 100'ks, that sounds like a good idea but doesnt say if its min or synt.

            Your choice bloke.

I and many others use Caltex Delo 400 Multigrade 15W-40 which is available from Caltex depots for < $100 for a 20L drum.

The oil manufacturer's recommendations in alphabetical order below:

            BP Netlube
            Caltex Netlube
            Castrol Netlube
            Mobil Netlube
            Nulon Netlube
            Redline Oil Finder
            Penrite Netlube
            Valvoline Netlube

Always refer to your manual as these are just manufacturer's guides. Particularly be careful with differential recommendations when there is a possibility of a LSD involved. An open differential in a vehicle with Traction Control has different requirements to a LSD.

Any doubts, just check back here.

              Doh,

2004 3.2d auto, 209'ks, Nz new, all uses from short town runs to towing two horses, ski feilds in the winter & road trips with the boat in the summer.

Air temp range from -10 to +35.

Interesting that only some mention older engines / higher k's in the product recommendations.

I also use Penrite HPR Diesel 5 here in Canberra bloody (cold) but changed to HPR Diesel 15 when warmer weather comes, and go back to the HPR Diesel 5 for winter as it is quieter on starts and cold short distance running. Also spend a lot of winter down in the high country, fly fishing. Lake Eucumbene was minus 9 last week and the lake edges was frozen had to use oars to break the surface.
                  Cheers
