    NSW Election - 26 March

I know most 4WDers avoid politics, but the NSW election in March is important enough to take a bit of interest. So please forgive this intrusion.

Whatever the outcome in the lower house (and it looks like a big Labor loss), we also elect the upper house. There, either the Greens will gain control or the minor parties will have the balance of power. Currently the Shooters Party, Christian Democrats and Family First are in that position.

Potentially it could be the Outdoor Recreation Party.

The ORP was founded in 1995 based on the 4WD movement, and had a member in parliament from 1999 to 2007. It is now under new management (I am the Registered Officer) and looking to regain the seat.

The ORP believes restrictions on outdoor activities are part of a larger problem of excessive regulation, bureaucracy and government intrusion.

In National Parks, four wheel drivers and others face closed tracks while the parks are mismanaged and neglected.

Recreational fishers face a growing web of regulations that threaten our most popular and enduring outdoor pastime.

Motorcyclists and modified car enthusiasts face restrictions that assume they are irresponsible, insane or criminal.

Rural property owners face growing restrictions on what they can do with their own land, with no respect for property rights.

Motorists face speed limits that are out of step with community standards and enforcement based on revenue-raising. Young drivers are singled out, causing anger and alienation.

The ORP believes those who care about excessive and unreasonable regulation can become politically powerful if they use their numbers to support a voice that tackles the underlying cause. Quite simply, the ORP stands for fewer rules and more freedom.

If you are a voter in NSW, vote for whoever you like in the lower house. But please consider voting for the Outdoor Recreation Party in the upper house. It could make a huge difference.
