Gen 3 Air con not blowing cold or hot

Ok Seeing I am from South Africa any think can happen. I have a year 2000 3.2 DID with 390K on the clock. This morning cumming to work, it was a bit chilly so turned on the heater set the dial to hot. Bingo nothing only cold air cumming in. Played around with hot cold, AC on AC off nothing. Then all of a sudden some hot air came out but then it stopped. Decided to see if the AC cold would work. Nothing. set it to climit control nothing. Got to work turned the car off set the AC to on at 17deg turned the car on and bingo cold air. if i touch the temp control it all stops

    Any pointers

That's was my first thinking. looking at the service manual right now. Ops should be working in the office. Will test the sensors according to the manual. Switch could be faulty will pull this weekend.

Problem solved. The engen blow up on the way home. Pulling of the freeway, white smoke out the bum. Got home opend bonnet could smell the boiling oil. Radiator was empty. I think the head gasket has gone. If I put water in the radiator which was empty it blows like a steam train and then oil is omitted. Bummer.
