    Braking Noise

Hi, I have researched this problem on the web to no avail.
NP Pajero 2004 Silver Anniversary 3.2 DiD.
I have difficulty explaining the noise that occurs when I brake, so I have placed a recording of it on the web (my wife's web page).

It occurs just about every time I press the brake pedal. Even when stationary without the motor running but ignition on. I believe I can hear a motor/pump operating for a second or two prior to the noise.
There are no error lights on the dash. The dash lights all come on momentarily when the ignition is switched on - including the ABS light - then go off as expected. No lights come on when the sound occurs or at any time while driving or stationary.
Recent repairs by diesel specialists - replaced the solenoids (?) under the battery box (?) to get rid of intermittent MIL and traction/stability control lights.
The noises appear to be coming from in or under the car at around the drivers seat area. Sorry, I can't be more specific.
Disclaimer: I have a Hayman Reece brake controller (installed in 2004) in the drivers area, and there is some thought that it is generating the noises. My next 'try' will be to replace that I guess.
Sorry for the long winded explanation, but has anyone experienced this problem? All advice and tips will be welcomed.
    Thanks in advance
    Peter

G'day mate, that noise is a fault in the HBB accumulator.

Lift the bonnet, start the car & watch the master cylinder area. The accumulator is an anodized, gold coloured cylinder about the size of a can of Coke. It'll likely shake every time you hear the noise.

I bought a genuine one off Ebay for $335 delivered. They are over $510 from a dealer.

People on here have posted that they've done the replacement themselves. I couldn't get the old one off, so I took it to a local workshop. They did the job for $178.

It won't get any better until you change it!

To add to the above, just make sure that the electrical HBB pump on the front of the master cylinder is in good shape before you buy an accumulator.

If you need to replace the pump, the master cylinder comes as a complete assembly for $3,500 from a dealer & has the accumulator with it.

At those dollars, you don't want to be buying 2 accumulators lol!
