    Who are you insured through?

I'm trying to get full comprehensive insurance online and every website I try, it spits out a message saying 'sorry, we can't offer you insurance right now'.

    Boring.

I'm pretty sure it was because I'd ticked numerous 'options' boxes eg. roof rack, spotlight, heavy duty suspension and so on.

Can anyone shed some light on who they've gone through please?

    Thanks

          Thanks for replying guys.

It looks like your Pajeros are a lot younger than my 1999 model.

Just on the phone to the RACV now, the highest they're prepared to insure the vehicle for, under 'agreed value' is $4700. I mentioned the upgrades it's had done to it, he's speaking to his underwriters now. See what happens I guess.

Anyone else with an NL want to chime in? Thanks

Mmm. Got a quote from Shannons, agreed value of $7500 listing all the bits and pieces I have on the car. Premium was an eye-watering $900-odd a year for full comprehensive.

Rating One driver, no claims in the past five years. Good solid risk etc etc. Thought it's be easy and relatively cheap. I mean, I had a Datsun 260Z insured with them, it was highly modified and insured for about $17000. The premium for comprehensive insurance on that was about $500 and that was ten years ago. Still scratching my head about that. Anyway.

As someone who has written off a couple of vehicles, I can say with absolute certainty that the price of the insurance per year is only a small part of what should be considered.

When the pride and joy is pressed against a roadside tree or some careless Commodore that's when you find out how well you chose which insurance company to use.

I would always go with a larger company and don't be afraid to drop them after a year or two as the premiums escalate and the coverage drops. And be aware of other tricks they pull. For example some years ago I wanted to insure Mrs emms car with RACV, I questioned the premium as I am a long standing rating 1 driver . Was told that could only be applied to one vehicle insured in my name. WTF. Off to another company I went. All vehicles insured on the basis of rating 1 driver, no problems.

I get annoyed by ads showing how cheap a particular car insurance is.

Insurance is like everything else. Its not just how much it costs, will it do the job required, fixing or replacing your vehicle?
2016 NX GLS Factory alloy bar, Provent 200 catch can, Boos bash plates (full set), Stedi light bar, 40 litre Waeco, Titan fridge slide, Kings springs, Toyo Open Country AT3s, Auto-mate, Ultragauge, Uniden 8080s, Tanami x11, more to come...

Couldn't agree more, Bingle are cheap, but its email & online only!

NRMA i'm with, have tightened over time, as in now have to use their repairer or pay a higher premium, i use to be able to choose.
This is something i live with.

I've had two claims with them, one was bad hail damaged, car required bonnet roof boot full re spray & countless dents in doors one side, handled well.

Another was other driver at fault, my wife failed to obtain her last name, claimed three months later, NRMA lady rung on my behalf, bluffed the lady obtained details required & waived the excess.
That's good service & i may have just struck a good customer care staff member as well
                    Car bumper fixed
(long story as to why it was 3 months after incident, I was trying to be nice)

So for money paid vs serviced i've recieved i have decided it is acceptable compared to what i would recieve with other companies.

NRMA $816 Per annum (Ihave multiple policies)
RACQ wanted more like $1200 per year, policy same.

Thank you all for your input.
I got on to a specialist 4x4 insurer. Forgotten their name but am waiting for them to call me back.
I completely agree with the feedback of going through a large company. Definitely not worth the hassle if something bad happened.

Doesn't matter who you go with. Just make sure that they cover your 4wd where ever you go. Some will only cover you on government Gazetted roads.

Well, I ended up going with Shannons. They were the only company who'd insure the vehicle for anything like replacement value, which after all is what I'm insuring it for, rather than 'market value'.

                          Thanks everyone for your input.

Sorry, didn't see your question. Insured value is $7500. Premium is $800-odd per year. $600 excess I think.
Full Comp, choice of repairer, salvage rights.
