I think the switch grounds the circuit, so probably a damaged wire touching the body. Try to follow the wire from the rear parker and look for any breaks or exposed areas (even water in the connector)

All starts with a white wire at the wheel.
Looking for a crushed wire to earth.
Had a towbar fitted? Or big nasty rock hit that back corner, rusted carrier?
Check the othe bulbs, dumb things happen and could short to earth.
