Default Need low k Jap 2.8 TD 4M40 import - any ideas where?

After my brilliant escapades this weekend, I may be looking at a new engine for my 1995 NJ 2.8 TDI - does anyone know where I could get one and how much I'd be looking at?

Would not recommend the low k Jap engines due to the number of hours they have done - almost guarantee a head to be done in the not too distant future.

There is a guy up this way who knows these engines well & could be worth a try - I could get you his details or just have a look under gumtree Brisbane for 4m40.

Not sure on $ though sorry.

Google searches so some of them might not be useful
http://front-half-cut.blogspot.com/2...rom-japan.html

Most of these mobs are in Brisbane

http://www.directimported.com.au/import-half-cuts.php
The other option is buying a wrecked truck from pickles, pulling out the engine and selling the rest. That way you get motor, gearbox & that rear window catch you wanted

I guess we’ll know where we stand after checking the bearings.

Gavan at Dragan Engineering up in north NSW does them on an exchange basis with warranty etc. Find his add on Brisbane Gumtree.

Regards,

At $2900 I would be checking out what Gavin has to offer.....Looks like he is coming with some recommendations from fellow Paj owners too.

I pulled off the timing case and the big end bearings, it looks like it’ll need new bearings. Might let the crank go this time.
I haven’t got to the oil pump as yet but its not far. Hopefully a new oil pump, big end bearings & turbo seals will fix it.

We’ve got this far, if it needs a rebuild I’ll do it myself

Gavin is still worth talking to. I have spoken to him a number of times & he is very helpful. He knows a heap of tricks with these engines. He is very prepared to share information.

In my case he has been helpful & in the short term done himself out of work - so he ain't trying to sell you something. But he could probably help supply you all the bits and pieces including advice to help make sure that you only need to do the job once.
