        Towing

Hi All, first post here. I Have an NT platinum. use it almost all onroad 95/5. But now have purchased a caravan and will be towing about 5000-10,000km a year, as well doing a little dirt and sand as we travel around. So I'd say 80/20 plus towing. Appreciate feedback on whether people think the Scorpion ATR would suit and if not, another option.

        Cheers

I fitted a set of Pirelli Scorpion ATR's last week and so far I couldn't be happier. It has removed the road noise from my short wheel base completely. They also seems to be very capable in the wet , during some heavy recent rain they handled well and when I turn into corners they actually respond unlike the previous set of kumhos that were on the vehicle when I purchased it.

            Small up date.

Scorpions have been on for 9 months and done around 16000 kms. Just done second rotation and they are showing no signs of wear. Still handle great on road, dry or wet, and good on the gravel roads. Road noise is still quiet.

Cant comment on towing as I only use a small garden trailer occasionally.

I've had my Scorpion ATR's for 45000km now and still going strong. Very happy, road noise went away and has not come back, even as the tyres have worn. I tow a small van and they are fine, grip is good in all conditions.I usually increase the pressure in the rear to ~ 45psi when towing. Mine are 265 70 17 LT, being larger, heavier and AT tread I expected to take a hit in fuel consumption, but the difference is quite small , about 1.5 l/100.

                Update.

Well over 20000kms now on the Scorpions and still very good. Did get a bloody screw in one of them a week ago, but got it patched for $25 and all good. Did a bit of a trip but only gravel roads not off road and they handled the loose stuff superb. Went through a fair bit of rain on sealed roads and the grip was excellent.

Just bought a set of 5x ATR's (LT265/70/17) for $1135 from Bob Jane in Perth. Very happy with the price. Can't wait to see how they go long term.

Getting a set of the Scorpion 265/60/18 ATR's fitted tomorrow, will be interested to see how they go.
Quite pleased with the price of $279 ea, thought i would be looking at $400+

Really looking for a quiet tyre with better grip on loose surfaces than the factory Dunlop Grandtrek which I have never really been fond of. 95% bitumen and 5% other.
                      Cheers Steve.

I’ve just fitted the LT 245 70 17in and got 5 fitted and balanced with a wheel alignment for $1109, which I thought was pretty good. They’re strong enough for serious touring but don’t look like you’re going mountain climbing. They seem really quiet so far (drive home from the fitting) and will have to wait and see their effect on fuel consumption.

Just a couple of hundred kays on these tyres now but, to follow up on what's been said earlier, they do seem much quieter. Previously had the original HT Bridgestones and the Pirellis seem to be better than those. The Pirellis don't seem to "excite" any noise from other parts of the car, similar maybe to what the Pajero drivers are discovering.
