            Fantastioc Central Oz photos

Absolutely amazing 2AM photo of Uluru, I had no idea modern DSLRs ISO settings would "see" that much light.

I've walked the 230km Larapinta Trail in the West Macs, the photos I have of scenery at our camps at dusk/dawn are like nothing else I have captured on the east coast. With the exception of Ormiston Gorge and maybe Redbank you just can't get to those really special West Mac places by road. I could see why Albert Namajtira (spelling?) mauve or purple hues in his paintings, it really is there.

Take a look at this pic I took at 12:15am - a 9 minute exposure. This was lit by moonlight and some lights from near the jetty.

I have a Canon 5D Mark III and my two main lenses are the Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L and Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L II. I process my pics in Lightroom. I don't do a lot to most pics - a little bit of contrast and saturation adjustments mostly (not a lot, though). I'll also often fix the exposure if I didn't get it right in camera. The other thing that I often adjust is the white balance - I shoot everything in raw and don't worry about the white balance until I'm post-processing.

Thanks Micky, we've owned a Canon 400D for about 3 years and only now really starting to get into it. Working on my composition, focus, aperture skills before I lash out for a newer unit. Also haven't signed up for Lightroom yet as the photography skills don't warrant the expense yet haha. Thanks.

I reckon the best thing you could do to learn would be to buy yourself a "nifty fifty" (the Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 lens) and play around with apertures and learn how to isolate focus on what you want the viewer to focus their eye on. That's a really cheap lens that can produce great results for the price, and as it opens up to f/1.8 it allows you to experiment with aperture without needing to spend a fortune on something like the 70-200mm f/2.8.
