Pioneer AVH-X5850BT

Seeing my reversing camera of many years has decided to chuck in the towel AND the volume on the OEM stereo has gone out in sympathy, I thought I might put in a new multimedia system that includes a reversing camera.

This one is on special at the moment at a local place – just wondering if anyone has any comments about their performance, reliability etc.

I don't know much about that unit, but I highly recommend you check out units with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto. It just makes things so simple. check out this one for example:

Yeah, thanks for the reply mate. The bloke mentioned Android Auto (I have a Samsung phone) and explained what it does, but I’m not that much into mobile usage. I don’t need it to mimic my phone for GPS etc. as I have a separate GPS and as long as it will operate as a “hands-off” device (which it will), I think this is all I will need.

Originally he quoted me the unit you mention but when I told him what I needed he suggested the 5850 unit as it has a slightly larger screen.

yes, apple car play and the android equivalent are the go when buying a car stereo these days. I am trying to get the Pioneer AVIC F80Bt. This is the Flag ship Pioneer model, but prohibitively expensive RRP is $2000, but I have seen them for around $1200. Still a lot of cash for a car radio

I like the F80 for the larger screen and the built in GPS where a lot of the cheaper units in the range use Car Play and phone GPS.

I have always had champagne taste and beer budget and it annoys me and my wife hates it, but Its who I am

I am going to sell my last Shotgun and that will go a long way to funding my new stereo. There are only 50 of them in Australia and it is in perfect condition so it will fetch a good price.
