    NS DID performance enhancement

so i'm looking at enhancing the performance of my '08 DID and came across a few options. (spider, chip-it, diesel-performance, speed-buster etc). The two top performers AFAIK are speed buster and Chip-It. How do you guys compare/rate the Speed-Buster and the Chip-It ?

Speed buster : (from this thread) 156kW, 599EUR
Chip-It : (from this thread) 127kW at rear wheel, approx 170kW at flywheel, 799AUD

    pls comment/compare...

What other bolt-on performance enhancement options are available ? Water-to-Air Intercooler (charge cooler) ? Does anybody do a Pajero Kit for this ?

    cheers

First thing I did was to put a larger exhaust system on, more power and torque,
    lets the engine breath better

Vicks I think it is hard to compare the 2 posts you have highlighted.

          The reasons are
          1. Is an Australian spec car with Australian spec fuel (Poor).
          2. Is an Different spec car with different quality fuel better or worse.

Other than the thread you mentioned I have never seen or heard of the Speedbuster chip.

Any chip you purchase will give you an increase in power. How much? you will not know until it is on your car and on the dyno.

You will not get any bigger value for money in regards to a power increase than an aftermarket chip.

When I first put my spider chip on I too spoke like Double cheese on the speedbuster thread. The power increase was instantaneous and very noticeable.

As you know i now have the Chip-it chip and am very impressed with the tunability now and in the future.
          Keep researching and good luck.

thanks for your clear and no-bullshit answers. I really appreciate your inputs and positive guidance.

I think i'll go with the Chip-It solution. guess its time to ring them (several posts, PM and email have had no response from Robert) and talk.

            thanks

Dont suppose you noticed Vicks is in Saudia Arabia! Might be just a bit more difficult for him to ring them himself than 2 x one legged blokes answering an email. Its great that their business is busy, but to keep growing their business they need to concentrate on both sales and customer service.

yeah, living in the desert doesn't help much (wrt time zones), but i'm going to give them a call today. Working in Sales/Customer support myself, albeit on a much larger scale, i know how much of a difference a simple one line email reply saying "we are looking into this and will get back to you ASAP" makes. Still i understand Roberts side of the issue too and am not going to demand that he reply to my emails. I'll call them no probs.

                    thanks guys.

                      duh !!!

OK, so i tried calling htem and failed in the first step itself, and not for a lack of trying !!! Their phone number !!! Its an 1800 number and you can't make an international call to an 1800 number. Though i dialled the number, there is only a recorded operator message to check the number i dialled.

                            water-to-air charge cooler

so, i've ordered the Chip-It chip and waiting for it to arrive so i can fit and do some test drives.

in the meanwhile, i've been looking at water-to-air charge coolers like this kit by AVT sold on chargecooler.co.uk

The kit is quite expensive at 725GBP (approx 1,360AUD) excluding taxes/shipping. So, i'm thinking about going the D.I.Y route by converting the stock Air-to-Air unit. The idea is to fabricate a sealable enclosure in which the stock intercooler will fit into. This enclosure will have fittings for the water/coolant, fed by a 12V automotive pump. The pump draws cooled water/coolant from the edit: additional radiator (aprpox 20"x7"x2" or close enough) mounted somewhere in the rear space where my 3rd row seat used to be.

I have a question however, Is the stock intercooler steel or aluminium ? Will it be prone to rust/erosion/corrosion damage if it comes in contact with water or engine coolant mixture ?

                            cheers

I believe you'd need a dedicated coolant reservoir and additional radiator to cool this fluid to have any effect at all. Your standard air-air intercooler would have a temp differential of say 3:1 - ambient over inlet temp, engine coolant would be only just over 1:1, I believe you would end up with a higher inlet temp in your scenario. Happy to be corrected.

                              Shane.
