I feel for you as pump rebuilds / replacements are never cheap. In saying that though, making it past the 300K mark on the original pump is a good innings!
Once she's running good again you won't regret having spent the money.
Keep us posted with how you go....
Your paj is looking good by the way!
    Cheers, Dan.

cheers Dan. Thinking about it, it's probably overdue for injectors too. The dirty fuel problems I had a while back may have caused damage with crap getting forced through the system. Looks like the 4M40 injectors are a lot cheaper than the DID motor. $215 reco'd thru ebay. If I end up getting the pump rebuild, it'll get new injectors done at the same time. Who knows, they might say it just needs the injectors, hahah.

Picked up a 2nd spare and a lower grill screen today. Doing an oil change, plus oil, air and fuel filters tomorrow.

I need to get a sump pump so I can do the diffs, gearbox and transfer case. Had one 20 years ago when I was tinkering with my Ford Escort all the time. Bloody handy things.

Planning a trip to the gulf in Sept, so need to get the car running nicely before then.....

Injectors at the same time is a very good idea.
$215 for a set is great. They are about $200 each for the pre common-rail DiD and god knows how much for the common-rail version!
I will have a big service to do later this year and instead of a 'sump pump' I have heard of many people buying a cheap pressure sprayer form the hardware store (about $10), cut the wand off of it, fill with oil, shove the hose in the gearbox / diff fill hole and just pump away.....
        Cheers, Dan.

We've decided to put off the fuel pump/injector fix til tax time. In the meantime, we've decided to fix the tired/saggy/wobbly suspension on the old bus.

          Ordered:-

King HD Raised (KCFR-34HD & KCRR-35HD) coils and Bilstein shocks!

Can't wait to get it all fitted. Will post pics for sure.

Being a diesel, it's got a chain, not a belt. As far as I'm aware, timing chains don't need replacing under normal circumstances.

Thanks to Wayne (amr75wcr) my back end is no longer sagging. King springs and Bilsteins installed today along with fresh diff oil x 2, gearbox and transfer case.

The front springs and shocks and full wheel alignment will be done on Monday at Bridgestone. The back end was tricky enough, can't imagine attempting the fronts.

I'll get measurements after the wheel alignment is done. It was 725mm both sides at the back this morning. The driver side was 785mm (800+ when it came off the hoist!) after installing, but looked to be riding on the outer edge due to positive camber, so I'd hope that will come down an inch or so. The passenger side was 775mm ish. The annoying clunking/thunking in the back end of mine that I thought was the diff bushes, was actually the lower shock bushes. They were stuffed and fell out of the old shocks when removed. It's nice and quiet now with the Billies! Can't wait to stiffen up the front now. It drives noticeably better even with the back end fixed.

                Thanks again Wayne!

Wow! Just got back from Bridgestone, where they installed the front springs, shocks, did the wheel alignment and rotated the tyres. Feels so different now. Much "meatier", yet smoother. It's only a small lift, but you can feel yourself sitting a bit higher. I'm very happy. I'll take another measure next time it's parked somewhere flat, because my driveway is on an angle, but initial numbers are:-

Fronts went from 690mm to 760mm
Backs went from 725mm to 775-785mm

The back right is 5-10mm higher than the left, we noticed that the spring sat in a slightly different position in the top cup rubber thing. I think it will settle a bit to match the left over time.

Looks like it's gotten about a 2" lift over the standard numbers and 3" on the sagged front. The back end wasn't all that low before but the springs were mushy and it would hit the bump stops over small bumps.

One week on and the fronts are sitting at 760mm and the backs at 775 & 785 mm still. I gotta say I LOVE the way it rides now. Its like a magic carpet!

Seems I gave the Bilsteins more credit than they deserved. They're great, but they don't have magic noise suppressing powers! The thumping "suspension" noise I've had in the car since we've had it came back a day or two after putting the new suspension in. dammit!

After much head scratching and rocking of the Paj side to side, Wayne (amr75wcr) figured out that my right rear shocky was moving at the lower mount. The bolt was stripped and it had worked itself a quater of a turn loose. Sure enough, we tightened it up again and the noise went away. So annoying! But also awesome, because it means once we get a new bolt in there it should shut it up once and for all. It also explains why I couldn't hear it when we took it for a drive after putting the suspension in. I thought I was going crazy when the noise came back....

Still can't believe I've put up with that noise for 2 years.....

Well brisvegas, you have spent all this money on these MOD'S, but you have ignored the most important one, your fuel pump, it will be such a shame, if you find yourself just hitting the road on your hols, when the engine goes BANG, what a waste, but there you go, best of luck.
