Default NP 3.2 DID rear axle shafts

Hi all,
The rear axle shafts in my 05 NP DID are worn and are now making clicking and groaning noises during coasting and turning. Ive taken a look at both sides have worn boots which have allowed debris to enter and kill the joints. From looking around it seems extremely difficult to source these parts.
The local shop here said they can send them off to Sydney but it will be a 5 day turn around and the shop in Sydney wasnt even sure if its something they can do. Just wondering if there are any alternatives such as hunting down used ones or something else?

Thanks.

Hi Slowbrick,
I've done both my rears with second hand ones from the wreckers. I got them from Central coast 4x4 wreckers, not too far from you. $100 delivered each... I've just noticed the one I put in 4 years ago has developed a leak. Haven't got any sounds yet but I'll just replace it with another one from CC 4x4. The other side I put in earlier this year and is going good...
If your not mechanical minded, it will be an easy straight swap job for a mechanic. Just an option mate..cheers

Thats fantastic mate ill give them a ring this afternoon! I was contemplating going new but at $1200 a side from MM that wasnt really something thats feasible. $100 a side and 4 years sounds great to me. We've had this Pajero for about 2 years and have put just over 50k on it so another 4 years will be perfect!

No worries,There's no way really knowing the wear of the CV's or how many Kilometres they have done. But yeah I got 4 years out of one(over 4 years now, still on there) and I have a 2 1/2 inch lift which isn't helping the covers on them....cheers

Just been through this myself. Split a rear boot 12 months ago and got a new boot put on. Was told then it had slight wear. Started to make cluncking noises about 4000km ago and I just replaced it myself a couple of weeks ago.
There is a CV specialist mechanic near me and he said the rear CV on these Pajero's can't be rebuilt as they are an odd size and he can't get the parts. I can PM you his number if you want to speak to him. He was refered to me by the local Bursons parts place and another mechanic.
He also said they are virtually indestructable unless you split the boots and get too much crud in them.
So the only option is new or second hand. As you know new isn't an option unless you have plenty of cash to splash.
I managed to get second hand ones from the wreckers for $150 each from a Pajero with 160K on it.
I took one to the CV specialist and he confirmed it was in excellent condition. The other one is in the shed incase I need it at a later date.
Mine has 439K on it so hope the second hand one lasts until I eventually sell the Pajero.
I got the boots on the other side repaced when I split the left one 12 months ago and so far it is all ok.
The CV is fairly easy to replace yourself if you have a few tools and a bit of an idea how to use them. Otherwise it should only be a couple of hours if that for a mechanic to swap them both.

They are not available after market. If you look for rear CV joints online they will come up as rear CV's but when you look at them they are in fact front CV's. Some one on this froum got caught like this not long ago.

I recently got a propeller shaft from a wrecker in Adelaide – only cost me $60 to have it freighted to Lismore – total cost was $240 compared with Mitsubishi’s new price of $2,799. A member here recommended Eddy Wreckers at Gillman, Adelaide. I rang the guy and he was very helpful – didn’t have the shaft himself but recommended two other places he said did – one was Oriental 4WD but I can’t remember the name of the other. Apparently they have lots of Pajero parts. If you don’t have any luck locally, give them a try.

Cheers
Geoff

Cheers guys, really appreciate the help. Went down to Central Coast 4x4 and they had a nice pair there for $100 each. They look like they should do the trick. Will update when I get underneath the big boi and change them out!
Excited to not have the clunking and thumping from the back!

Another reason Pajero is a fine choice, seems to be plenty of dead ones around to scavenge parts, been a similar vehicle in the market for quite sometime without a lot of change.

Hi Jason,
Any idea if the later model pajero's CV's fit in an NP? A few people have said they have different part numbers from NS onwards but I haven't had anyone actually confirm they are the same or not and whether they would fit in an NP. Just thought I'd ask the question.. Cheers
