Aldi deep cycle battery in 2nd battery tray?

Aldi have a 38ah deep cycle battery that will fit perfectly in my second battery tray. It's an AGM battery: does this have any ramifications for charging? My second battery is charged via some Redarc gadget, i can't recall what its catalog number is.

    38Ah isn't big - in fact, it's pretty small.

When you take into account the generally accepted limit of 50% discharge for regular cycling, 19Ah wouldn't be enough to run a typical fridge for one day.

It's likely to have a low limit for maximum charge current too, so it's likely your car will be regularly charging it at too high a rate, which won't be good for it's long-term health.

    I wouldn't.

Sealed AGM batteries don't tend to like hot environments either and are generally not recommended for under bonnet applications. A wet cell deep cycle like the century 105 AH or one of those expensive ULTIMA spiral cell batteries are the go for under bonnet.

it turns out I have a sidewinder DBI 120 as an isolator, not any sort of regulator. I think this means that once the main battery voltage >13.2V, charge goes to the auxiliary battery.

Anyway, I've hooked it up and I'll see how it goes.

I've also had problems in the past with expensive deep cycle batteries dying, so at least this only cost $99

according to the specs that came with the battery, it's charging voltage is 13.4 -15.0V, and it's operating temp is -20C to 60C. So I'm hoping it will be fine.

Can you scan and post the entire spec sheet?
