    High Kms 3.8

    Hi all,

I've got the opportunity to buy a NS VRX 3.8 auto in great condition for what I consider to be the good price of 7k.

Car drives as expected, has full service history and is pretty standard apart from upgraded head unit.

Now my only major concern and the reason why it's cheap (from dealers) - 330km.

    What do you guys think?

    Thanks.

Is that the Jatco or Aisin auto. Coz if it’s a Jatco it’s prob on its last legs it it hasn’t already been reconditioned based on what I’ve read and also heard from an auto specialist

Has 3 year warranty (for what that's worth) - any other high mileage 3.5 or 3.8 here?

Think I recently read here about a 3.5 or 3.8 with 400,000K on it.

How does a car over 10 years old still have a 3 year warranty?
It would be a third party warranty that wouldn't be worth the paper it's written on, even if it was a Mits lifetime drive train warranty, they don't pass to the new owner.

I did a fair bit of reading before I bought my 2004 3.8L. (Since sold it)

The 3.8 is pretty bulletproof from what I read. Even the mechanic who inspected it before my purchase said the same, and that the 3.8L had a fair few improvements over the 3.5 that help with longevity.

My main concern as mentioned earlier is the auto transmission but if it’s an Aisin probably fine.

                  Also they like a drink.

All petrol Pajeros from NM, NP, NS, NT to the NW had the Jatco gearbox.

Diesels had Jatco until the NT when they went to the Aisin gearbox due to the increase in power from the diesel motor.

330k IMO is not that much if it has been looked after. City -v- country kms is another argument and something to consider.
Full service history is not worth the book the stamps are in IMO as they can be just written up if need be. A full inspection by someone reputable and that has no say in your purchase is worth more, plus your gut feel for how the car has been looked after going by the appearance etc is a far better guide IMO.
The auto box thing may be of concern but you can always build that in to the price or take a punt with the 3 yr "warranty" (read the fine print before putting your balls on the line tho).

                        330000km NS

I sold my 2007 NS Diesel @ 280 000km all country driven, privately for $12k 5 years ago, I thought that was a fair price.
$9k for 330 000km petrol I don't consider cheap, depending on condition perhaps fairly price.

for what its worth, my 3.8 NS vrx has done 335,000 k's, still drives great, engine is quiet, doesn't use a lot of oil, yes, they are a bit thirsty,,,i have been wondering about longevity also, but at this stage all seems good!
                          cheers.
