    Bad smell

    Hi guys anyone had a bad smell after starting it up in the mornings but the smell goes away after 2/3 minutes,there is no smoke at all . In a 3.2 motor 4m41 triton.2008 .

    All diesels smell for first few minutes after cold start - is this your first diesel?


    What sort of "bad smell"?

          Exhaust the same smell from engine oil .iam thinking maybe a seal is leaking oil in the chamber somewhere.even after I cleaned the top and bottom manifolds pip and egr

            Did it smell before you did the work? How long ago - might just be burning off sealant, gaskets, etc?


            Have you had the fuel rails/injectors apart? These are very precise components & can leak diesel into the sump if not done perfectly - check your engine oil level to make sure it hasn't gone overfull with diesel dilution.


            Sounds like it may have an exhaust leak up front? Listen for any extra exhaust noise near pipes/engine. Using a good torch, start it cold in the dark & look for exhaust gases leaking out. Only when stone cold, you can squirt water onto the exhaust pipes & joins to see if any escaping gases spray the water outwards (but not near fan, electrics, etc.)

              Yes mate it had the same smell befor I cleaned but will check for exhaust leak thank you
