LRA or Long Ranger Aux Tank?

Hi, im in the process of getting one of these aux tank installed in the coming weeks, im leaning towards LRA due to there is no drilling into the floor, just bolts in where the tow bar goes & the Long Ranger there are (6) holes to be drilled? Have been quoted ARB - Long ranger $1971 + diesel
& $1897 + diesel for the LRA, are there any issues that I should Know of?
have read Brown Davis have had issues? & quoted $2044 + diesel.
also if anyone has picks of there's as ive only seen them on an NM & would be appreciated. I have an NT
    Thanks in advance

I went with the LRA tank and have no complaints other than the transfer pump takes a while to pump the fuel over and has no auto cut- out.
It's taken a hiding and has the dings to prove it.

They did drill a hole or two in the rear seat well to mount the fill pipes etc.

I've been meaning to have a cover of some description made up to cover the filler pipes.

Don't know where in Sydney you are but this mob are Pajero specialists plus they sell and fit tanks. Many here swear by them.

Whilst I don't have an NT, the tanks are the same.
LRA tank here also, but the 81L version.
Best mod I have ever done to my Paj.
        Pics on this Page: http://www2.pajeroclub.com.au/forum/...t=13280&page=9
No holes were drilled in the seat well of my Paj for the install.
The tank took an absolute hiding when crossing the simpson in 2012, getting beaten down onto the sand hundreds of times and coming out unscathed at the other end.
        Highly recommended!
        Cheers, Dan.

Same here with the LRA tank. It's taken an absolute hammering and prevented the bumper from being ripped off numerous times - highly recommended. I've always worried about the exposed filler lines etc but in two seperate vehicles and many off-road kms I've never come close to damaging them. The pump is slow, but it's never been an inconvenience yet. And the pump can be run dry. The drain is also good - not sure if they all have drains or just the LRA.

I can vouch for the pump being able to be run dry after my Missus had the Paj for a trip a few hundred km's away and when she got home, she said the Paj is making a funny tick tick noise! Straight away I knew she had somehow activated the transfer pump switch. It was running for nearly 2 hrs dry, and I was convinced it would be buggered. But there has been no issues with it.

facet pumps are very hardy and can run dry for hours and hours without any problems - whilst is it not recommended - they can certainly handle it.

As for the "slow" transfer - the ones that come with the LRA tank are rated at 2L per minute (120L per hour) seriously, how much faster do you need it to pump ?? - If you go too fast you will just cause foaming surely ??

You can't use more fuel than it pumps, is there a reason you have to have the other tank empty quicker ??

If so, you can always replace the pump with a faster pump for about $50-$80

I have the LRA fitted by the guys at Artarmon Automotive, Lots of pics in my build up / photos thread (see link in my signature)

I'm currently looking into aux tanks at the moment too. I was leaning towards the LRA due to the better mounting but the only distributor listed for Newcastle had no interest in selling one to me - only wanted to sell the Brown Davis

So I'm now considering the Long ranger as I haven't heard any bad reviews apart from the mounting through the floor.

I was going to look at Sydney but the prices you have been quoted are the same as I have got up here - so not worth the 300k round trip

Well lots of experience quoted on the LRA, so let me give you an opinion on the Long Ranger.

If I had my time again, I would go the LRA and 81L. But I believe this sits just marginally lower than the 60L long ranger??? In my mind the LRA is just a better made product. But I do need to say I have not suffered any issues with the Long Ranger (apart from a leaky seam - which in hindsight is why I believe I got the tank cheap in the first place, unknowingly). Its coped and survived the same abuse as the LRA examples above. It uses the same pump and switch so the LRA comments on those will be the same.

I too have also been a bit sceptical re the unprotected filler lines and filter. Whilst my underguards have been hammered with the best the Kimberley and Central Aus could throw at it, There have been zero damage issues here to date. Touch wood.

BTW, the long ranger has a drain. So if the pump failed, you could use a bucket

Foaming shouldn't be an issue pumping faster, you wouldn't stand at a servo for 1/2 an hour to pump 60 litres in! There have been several times I've forgotten to turn the pump off and would prefer if I could do it in under ten minutes while I am focused on it. No biggie just my preference as I can't here the pump running at all when I am travelling with the water tank and drawers above it, so I don't hear the change in pump sound when it's dry.
I'll get around to changing the pump when it annoys me enough

I did my filter a couple of weeks back. Seriously thinking about buying a 5L jerry specifically for that purpose. Priming from empty was a freakin hour long pain in the....forearm.

You're doing it the hard way Shane. Buy a 1m long piece of clear PVC pipe, connect it to the outlet of the filter primer assy and use your mouth to apply a bit of suction to the filter. You'll know that fuel is making its way into the filter well before you cop a mouthful of diesel. The clear pipe gives you good warning of that also
                          Cheers, Dan.

I hear what your saying, but after a lot of asking both here & two local 4x4 shops who deal with long ranger, didn't give me confidence when I was enquiring about the set up & installation hence me travelling from western Sydney to Artarmon Automotive, as they knew the ins & outs about my paj. They even said they usually have them in stock but just sold the last one! so when dishing that much coin out, personally don't mind wasting a day or two.
