I can't see how water can effect the CAS. It's a sealed unit that reads magnetic pulses. The timing covers as well as the alloy plate are definitely not water tight either.

I have a 05 NP 3.8 petrol and my $15 ebay dongle works fine talking with Torque on my phone. I also have a Turboguage permanently mounted in the car which also works fine.

3.8 petrols can use any obd2 compliant scantool, it gets a fair bit more expensive with the diesels
as they need a mut3 compliant scanner.
