    12v fridge options and experiences

Hi all just wanting to utalise the brains trust.
Has any one had any experience with the new jaycar fridges?
I'm in the market for a car fridge but am limited to one less than 450mm in height due to the fact I have a hard lid on my ute. The only ones I have found are the 38lt evakool which is my first pick but no one has one in stock where I live and I need it by next weekend, 2nd is the Jaycar 40lt and lastly the 60lt arb but this is over double the price of the other two. Would also consider an Aldi one as I believe they are almost the same as the evakool but again no Aldi here in Alice Springs.

Any experiences or feed back would be appreciated

It might not help by this weekend but I am extremely happy with my EvaKool 47L. I've got a Waeco CF40 as well but the Evakool is superior. If height is the issue, then a fridge with the compressor on the outside, rather than underneath (like the Evakool) is the best option.

Not the easiest place to get a fridge up that way... Have you tried Darwin?...Courier from Darwin would be cheaper than Courier from Adelaide....

Depending on your budget, give these guys a call to see what they have in stock http://www.6thgear.com.au/the%20gear.html

Or try Snowy's Outdoors who now have free delivery on fridges.

I bought a Waeco CF-40 a few months ago from BCF on sale, no issues so far. I think with the insulation cover on its going closer to 47cm tall which won't fit your needs.

Of course at the time, all the sales people were spruiking the new CFX range saying how much more efficient they are. Dimensions were quite good but I couldn't justify the price!

Our 75L dual zone Evakool (Glacier Series) has been awesome. Ring Evakool, they are generally very good with postage.

I know they are expensive, but the ARB fridges are damn good... I wanted the 60L but it wouldn't fit in the back of the Paj

I've got the smallest (about 30-35l) powertech from jaycar. It has a danfoss compressor and comes with 5 year compressor and 3 year warranty on the rest.
So far it's been working great, it doesn't drain my battery to bad and you can buy another one after 3 years and it's still cheaper than arb... From what I can tell it is almost identical with the waeco and Aldi ones.
The only down side is it doesn't have a drain plug. I use a big syringe with a little rubber hose to get the condensated water out. Works fine. I'd buy it again!

I just looked it up again: mine is the Powertech portable 30L fridge/freezer. It says $749 on jaycar online. I payed $550 half a year ago!
I was also looking for a low fridge because I have the bed on top in the paj.
I'd just look at the details. Make sure you get decent warranty. From what I have heard danfoss compressors are best because they can be fixed and parts are available unlike cheap China copies..

Depending on your budget, trailblazer (Norcoast) do specific models for the back of utes.

Can be a little pricey compared to off the shelf manufacturers but you a getting a quality Australian built fridge for your money. I currently have a version that i purchased in 97....not a single drama.

                    Cheers

Aldi has a little 30 liter fridge next week! $500. Looks exactly like mine (powertech) or the little waeco one. I bet it's the same.
