Rolling resto - 89 Shorty

Me again, back with my other project. got my hands this old girl about 2 years ago now. really neglected, bad paint, rough wheel, never had the valve lash adjusted. spent a bit of time getting her all cleaned up, it basically a pavement princess now. sorry. but the ute is the main offroad basher.

A quick run down:
89 shorty
2.5 turbo intercooled diesel
5 speed
electric windows
chromed everything
hella 4000 compact spotties
redarc 1440 dual battery controller
arb compressor
30x9.5r15 BF Allterrains KO2's
brown davis long range tank
fresh closed door respray

An Honest beauty

Great looking Bus there:clap2[1]:.

I'm just getting use to a 1990 JAP IMPORT with the same color scheme myself. The boxy shape does it for me and the truck like rear view mirrors are a real gem.

Dicko1 05-09-16 09:15 AM

Looks good.:clap2[1]:

very nice! Wheels from the old superwagon I am guessing? They are much better than the factory jap alloys that came with it. The new ATs look pretty tough on them too!

Re the jerry holder. Whats to think about? Fit it! haha

You would be guessing correctly, love the simple 5 spoke style. always a tough look. the holder will be going on. just not yet. gotta get my red one in for paint first. to many projects not enough time

For ages I toyed with the idea of widening my chromies so I could fit a 10.5 wide tyre. In the end logic prevailed and I took the easier path (7 inch rims).

I currently have 31X10.5 on my shorty and its sweet as but ultimately I'll be putting 33s in the future.

I have seen a lot of guys in the states that run 31x10.5 on the standard 6 inch rim and I was very tempted to do it myself, but I didnt think it was legal, would have expected the middle section of the tyres to wear out faster and I would have struggled to find a tyre shop willing to do it! Beauty of NSW...

Widening would look soooooo much better as the stance would be a little more aggressive too!

cruisn06 19-10-16 11:03 PM

slowly getting a bit more work done, basically, new brakes all around, and shocks. have small lift springs to install to help deal with the weight gain from the tank. May have also located a slightly bigger intake side for the turbo... okay I did.. 13g.

got my plates swapped over from the ute. as thats for sale.

Also, Spare fuel pump is at the shop getting bored out to an 11mm plunger... but more to come on that later

Exceeder 02-02-17 09:24 AM

Very interested in this!
Is it an orig Mitsi pump or the zexcel one?
Im onto my 2nd Import, few subtle differences between them has surprised me!

Real inspiration your build is! Keep it up!

Standard mitsu pump.

got dropped off at paint shop for a few touch ups. also getting factory jerry can repainted to look like new again.

Exceeder 20-02-17 10:25 PM

I've had a few tinkerings with the pumps over the years. If you need any tips just ask.
Progressive rate spring in the boost compensator made a nice difference, as did tuning the max fuel setting without the plunger fitted!!
(Not for urban workshops.... Sooty as fk during set up!)
Had a few 'custom' profiles made too, but that's the very last part after new turbo and super decent intercooling and exhaust system

cruisn06 09-03-17 10:17 PM

Got my jerry can back:
